Hong Kong - 1 of My Top 5 Cities Hong Kong I have been to Hong Kong many times, and everytime I'm there, it's new and exciting. I love Hong Kong. I would rank it as one of the top 5 cities of the world. My criteria for top cities are: 1. Strategically located and geologically beautiful. There has to be a great balance of elevated terrain, lush slopes, and open water. A safe harbor and deep sea port would be ideal for the historically inclined. 2. Clean environment. There's no haze, no smog, no water pollutants, no garbage lying uncollected for days in the streets, no trash thrown around at will and not cleaned up. 3. Great food. Selection and diversity are important. So are quality and affordability. 4. Fun folks. Work is work and play is play. 5. Excellent infrastructure. A well-planned and beautifully-architected metropolis that offer millions of residents and travellers alike the comfort and ease of efficient public transportation and safe thoroughfares. The buildings must respect the existence of nature inside and around them. 6. Low crime. 7. Clubbing oasis. Beautiful people, reasonable prices and gracious service. 8. Shopper's paradise. Good stuff, no tax, economy to high end. 9. Nature's trail. In the midst of the urban jungle, must have hills to climb and paths to hike, and surrounded by nature. 10. Wonderful climate. At least for much of the year. |

2. Clean environment. There's no haze, no smog, no water pollutants, no garbage lying uncollected for days in the streets, no trash thrown around at will and not cleaned up. Eh? Not the HK I know. You must be talking about the New Territories...

I agree with Mold. In fact Hong Kong today is very polluted. The horse racing ground needs to be illuminated even in daytime bcoz of smog and haze. Me personally dont like Hong Kong. I just want to flee once i land on it. For all yr criteria, i will just vote for no. 1. But maybe it fits metropolitants like you, not villagers like me.

There is much nature (and clean air) left on Tai Mo Shan. I was up there a few times via chopper lifts from the HK Police and Emergency Services. BAH

You must be talking about the New Territories... HK scores relatively high on the other 9 in my list, but I agree that she is not very good at 2. Overall, it's cleaner than many other major cities in my top 50. I won't list all 50, but may name 5. And yes, HK includes the New Territories. BAH

Bah, Ta Mo San? If you live in HK, how ofen you will have the chopper lifts to stay on Ta Mo? I lift up my legs to veto HK as an ideal place for living, nor for travelling. Blah, blah... OH, pls go on share your other favorits cities.

OH, pls go on share your other favorits cities. You can always drive up to Tai Mo Shan or get a cab up there. The chopper ride is for the lazy and/or well-connected. The other trail that is great for a nature-hike is on the Northeast side of the New Territories, near the reservoir. Cows still roam the slopes of the hills in that area. BAH

AF, I know what you mean. I can spend hours looking at HK island from the Kowloon wharf... on a clear night. It will make you fall in love with your future mother-in-law, if any. BAH

asiafriend, what do you mean “fans "? Anyone that visits a blog? Following your argument then that must make you and bayarea even MORE of my “fans " as I've noticed you both in my visitors list regularly and recently long before I ever saw let alone commented on any of your blogs. asiafriend, if I have read any of yours, I'm sorry I don't remember a single one at all which is probably why I never went back. Honest. Even so, I wouldn’t be so presumptuous as you have demonstrated to think of you “fans " at all.

EM, As you can tell, I've read your blog. It's fun reading and entertaining all rolled into one. When relevant, I'll chime in, but I prefer to lurk to fathom the depth of your mind first before shooting blanks. I can't speak for AF, but she and I have been exchanging some vibes in the Magazine Section. It's so dead serious it needs a spark of party atmosphere over there. (Anytime you try to inject humor there, you'll get a dozen folks disagreeing with you.) I think the fun/fan thingie is a carry-over from that battlefield. BAH

lol @ bayarea. Oh, I see. Sorry, I had no idea the history of scuffles or entanglements between you and asiafriend as I hardly read the magazine section. Please do carry on, lol. Play nice now. I read your recent posts on HK and China as they came out in a consecutive bunch two days ago. Hard for anyone to miss them. Judging from your responses to me I think you can be a fun guy too. What's hard to admit about that? Cheers!

AF, Awww.... too bad you got the runs. Though not a digestive nor rectal expert, I figure it must have been awful! Anyway, glad you got over it (always bring Bo Jai Yun for trips like these), and it looks like you've enjoyed your trip so far. I missed HZ, and I'll make sure I get there on my next trip. If you've been to Wu Zhen, you won't miss much in ZZ. I got my tips about these water villages while watching MI-3. Will check your blog on your adventures. Cheers!
