Toiling plus Nagging in Typhoon Nuri

Nuri is a bird's name, now they name this typhoon singal no. 8.

All in a sudden, the city is eempty (perhaps all Southern China), like after an evacuation. I enjoy that - fallen leaves and fallen everything from the nature and unnatural objects.

Best choice is to watch the tide on the sea, feeling the power of creator, if there's one.

Yet I have to do translation work that ought to be delivered today. Whats worse, I wonder work for what. Work for what, when everybody has retreated into their nests watching the Beijing Birdnest events. It's miserable if i am asking myself this.

And I feel abandoned by the prevalent typhoon, in utmost solitude, with a light, music and a lamp.

Do we feel more happy if we are doing exactly what others do? Is it that there's a happy model to follow? But only last night, I was pretty jolly when I sat in the Zhuhai street biting a sweet potato, all alone. I was enjoying the revisit of happy loneliness.

DVC

Agreed. We are not only dwarfed by the majesty of forces of nature. But also submitted.

When we dont do what others do, we lose the feeling of belonging. When everyone else was reveling at the One World One Dream game, you were reclusive somewhere facing one wall, Would u be happy?

Oas

Thanks for pointing out: "Plain English" and "Plain Writing/Speaking" in whatever language is very important and is one of the gold rules to follow.

But as DVC pointed out, maybe we both deal with langugae (thought i am just a callow pupil), there are other principles to take into account such as the rhythms and sounds, these are called beauty / elegancy criteria.

So accuracy, clarity, beauty should be taken care of in translation and writing.

Oas,

Suddently just didnt fit to the ear when you read out. Reading a text loud and you'll find which words are better sounded.

Nan,

By essay, Oas means the small texts that reveal personal thinkings on any freely picked subject. In Chinese we have such a term shan wen 散文 or za wen 雜文.

I also agree with you: you write what you like. We are here to share not to make money thru professional writing. As long as our writing can convery our ideas, suffice.

I remember your vivid description of that earthquake experience. You are luckier having experiencing all kinds of extreme roars of the chaotic nature. I never listen to a snow-falling, not to say from an Alps chalet.

Cheers,

Oas&DVC,

We never think we are wrong in our belief. Believe what you believe.

So useless to convince Oas, let him go.

Apart from the rhyme, different wordings also bring out dif. emotion. I think Oas may not agree.

Tks for the nice discussions here while Hilary is ovating in my ear.

OAS

Dont you believe ugly man will get a pretty woman? So keep your hope, and hope on.

Never give up your dreams. You have humor, girls like that. But better you write them love letters coz you are not a talkative guy and wont show any humor sense in your talking.

Relax, man!
