Happiness, What You Art? - fm a Morning Music Session

Every two weeks I have a music session in the morning to practise Chinese erhu - an instrument kind of fiddle.

After two-month break my teacher Wang, who is a professional Chinese music conductor, principal erhu musician for the city's sole Chinese music orchestra, and also a lecturer in the music school, looks more energetic and talktive.

He was trained since a in the East Northern city Dalian of China to be an erhuist in the 1950s. During the 1960s, he was with several different troupes on and off, until he landed on Hong Kong in the 1980s, looking for a change. He got a job in a plastic flowers maker factory as a packing supervisor. "I can remember more than 40 Englsih color names..."he said. He spent 3 years there, earning little.

"Fish can only swim in the proper water." He manifested. Later on he was admitted to an amateur music group, then to Hong Kong Chinese Music Orchestra. At last something lured him to the still-a-seedy-town Macau, to join the Macau Chinese Music Orchestra. He applied for retirement two years ago, but the organization asked him to stay longer.

He has music, students and his own life philosophy. So "I have no regret for the past 50 years." Though after retired, his pension is much less than other public servants as the Orchestra is not within the government system.

"I believe in the golden mean. Just enough money to afford a reasonable life is ok. "

"Music or any other forms, as long as they can arouse pleasant feelings, they are good. "

The highlight: when someone asked me what happiness is,

"Happiness is CAN do what you like; happiness is CAN do what you dont like."

With his happiness doctrine echoing, we played a duo for Beautiful Night. This tune, as per his idea, is the inspiration for the Beijing Olympics theme song. It can resonate craving for peace in people's mind.

Though this time the talk occupies half time of the lesson, it's very worthwhile.

Your understanding is great, offering another perception to the obscure red line.

But my teacher meant, 'happiness is able to fulfill your own will not to do the things you dont like. " It's contrary to yours.

Freedom of choice and free to do or not to do.

True.

Before I get up sooo late almost ten in the morning coz I dont like getting up early and I have the priveledge to sluggish. But for some weeks, due to the change of circumstances, I was forced to painfully get up at 8am and run to work b4 915am. But now I enjoy this new experience and feel more healthy happy embracing the gentle morning sun and breeze.

A demonstration of your Happiness is to do what you dont like
theory.

So, we ought to do something we 'think' we dont like, then try to like it, and savor the great happiness.

Miserably, we tend to be taken over by our subjective assumption and refuse to experience those things that we dont like to do.

Actually, on the contrary, if you do it, you'll savor the happiness to enjoy what you dont like. What you dont like will become what you like.

Another example is related to Taiwanese milk tea, in fact, i thought to write a post about this but never did.

When i saw young friends enjoy drinking it, and they invited me to drink, i refused strongly bcoz for me it's a disaster to make Chinese tea with milk, sugar and some plastic-like gel fruit, and icy cold.

Somehow, one day finally i tried and I submitted to it. The tea flavor remained long in your throat and mouth and you are heart-contented.
