Traditions and Happy Chinese New Year

Really busy, year-end rush.

Traditions can be reflected from the Shopping of must-have items for a Cantonese family for CNY, incl.:

1. traditional snap food such as seeds, nuts, fried Jiaozi, candies, etc for family gathering and relatives/friends visiting. I remember the joy of making Jaozi then fried them at home as a .

2. dry seafood materials for nice soup, incl. scallop, fish maw, sharp fin. Long-cooked soup is very important for a nice CNY meal.

3. Beautiful clothes for .

4. Lai Si packs(Red Pack lucky money), married ppl will exchange new money notes from bank for Lai Si distribution. Young ppl will also prepare Lai Si for seniors of family.

5. Tangerines and Flowers w/Red packs n red strings attached, Hui Cun scroll( lucky wishes writen in classic calligraphy on red paper),and other ornaments for the house.

6. Things for worship.

So at this time all housewives are busy and are anticipating Lai Si. I did when I was young.

I will have holiday in China from 1/27-2/6. Families, 3 generations, of my grandfather's brother, who resided in Beijing during 1960s, will come to Guangdong for a historical unification this CNY. Big family party then.

Happy CNY. Gong Hei Fatt Choi. SEE you next year

Traditions.. all cultures have them.. which is good, as long as they do not become situations of over-emphasised expectations of the turnout..
do these things for the shere love of sharing, without much of expectations of how other will respond and be open to acept the response as they come.. and this will be a wonderful occassion..
Traditions, paint idealistic pictures in the mind, but each persons picture is different..and during such occassions, people can feel less than happy if response are not as imagined, after all the busy work..
So be sure to stay aware that these traditions were, folklore passed thru the ages of how, people showed appreciations, and was regreated in form thru the years, to recapture the feelings.. so.. in this celebrations, do these things, for the shere love of giving and sharing, and as that's is your reward, and then you will enjoy the occassions, and stary your year on positive notes..
be mindful, of the many who cannot afford these dressings, and thus you will simply appreciate the gift of your ability to do so even moreso.. in graciousness..
