How far is your home?

Dont ask me where i am from
My home(town) is in the far

-- San Mao, Taiwanese Writer (1948-1994?)

How far is your (physical) home from your (spiritual) home?

Is your home your ideal home?

What's home? What's home?

Well, dont be swayed by me. I just want to talk about what's the proper distance between your workplace and your home for relaxing and sleeping.

I know in Europe or the States, people get used to spending long on driving or commute, even for some hours.

I grow up in small city and now live in small city. So my home distance is always within walk and bicycle. But with my pesent-day residing place - Macau - becoming more and more busy/crazy, i want to move awaay. Yet still have to make a living in Macau.

Last night I found my dream home when i visited a friend in the outskirt of Zhuhai, a city adjacent to Macau -- the apartment in villa style low building located near the beach where both the moutain and cloud seemed so close; trees swing, worms sing in the night; the moon look at me from above the balcony; fresh breeze caress me while i read comfortably on the veranda...few people, few noice but just nature...it's like staying in a forest park!

I wanted to rent this apartment when the friend move out to antoher bigger one, to try one month first then further decide to rent or buy one in this property. I am sure i will be more myself staying there!

But, but the only concern is the distance. To reach my future home, i need to take the self-run bus by the property management for 40 minutes before reaching the Macau/Zhuhai border. Then cross the border with customs/immigration check and walk or bus to office. Imagine a double trip like this every other day.

Ok, to simplify it, I would spend 60-75 minutes more on the road for each trip btwn workplace and living place than in Macau, where i can always walk.

Would it be tiresome? I wonder.

How far is your home from work and the centre? how do you treat the long distance? How should i decide? The restful night away from the hectic Macau seems necessary for me, as i was told i became sick these days.

Tks for your ideas, if any...

My parents house is one hour from the airport if you travel early in the morning. But Manila's traffic is so heavy, it takes 5 hours to reach home from the airport.

My house is in the mountains of Antipolo, fresh and cool place to live. And the saddest part is, I don't know my neighbors but I live near my ex But he's not in the Philippines anymore he is far away with his new life.

I am not in this two places as of now, I am in the Southern part of Luzon, my father's province. It's near the sea, near the church, near the school, near the city hall, near the terminal, near the market, near anywhere except my closest relatives. I have to stay away from them

From my father's house in Manila to the province will take 5-6 hours travel by car. If the roads are cemented maybe it will only take 3 hours.

I would not make this trip each day, even if I am going to Heaven!"

Considerate Xero,
A pounding shock to me!

Yes, what you say could be true, i'd enjoy in the beginning. After freshness fades away, the distance would tire me out.

I will consider your words.

How about finding a quiet place where to spend your weekends and staying in town during the week? Would that be possible, so as to get the benefit from each?

Nam
Hv u rcvd my email?

Tks for sharing yr own experience.

Cant find such a wonderful place in Macau, Macau's the most densely populated place in the world! Sometimes i really feel desparate w/ its over pollution and over crowd!

Your suggestion sounds! I always do this, but a relaxing night after work is desirable, to cut the longwaiting to weekend.

I'll consult the most important persons, myself and ...hehe...

Mint,

U r a lucky Birminghamer. Walking is the best exercise in the world, you've got it. Only hope that your 30min or 1hr walk is not filled up w/ polluted fumes like here we have.

The immigration check i mentioned is for China/Macau border cross check. Bcoz like Hong Kong, Macau is an independent Customs region.

We travel because we have to. I used to do 2.5 hrs a day going and return (after rush hr) but in the later part of those corp days, someone did the driving, but still it was unproductive in the car.

Now...i live next to where I teach and walk 10 minutes several times aday..... i dont have a car anymore and go about by bus..... i heard bicycles are easily stolen in china so i did not buy one in Beijing, also it may not be easy to ride during winter months as it would be damn cold on the fingers.

Its summer and I am helping to overseeing the intensive learning camp in Quanzhou and stay in camp with about 40 students 24 hrs and resolve daily problems like fights, meals, sickness, failing daily tests, etc etc........

So....yes it has been productive....no more travelling and more time for napping.
