See Diversity On Shoestring Budget. that China dun have

ASEAN has 10 countries and within each there are a good varieties of culture.

To plan a good 40 days trip, it is possibly to cover the whole achipelago starting from spore (2 day) right up to north of peninsula malaysia (1 wk) into predominanlty islamic south thailand (2day), cross left into Yangoon-Myanmar (2 day) then back into Central Thailand (2 days)and shoot across from Pattaya into Cambodia (4 days) then into Laos (2 days), turn south into S.Vietnam (3 days) and take a coast all along into Hanoi(4 days) then fly from there to Borneo to cross back into Kalimantan(2 days)and Sabah (3 days) and Brunei (1 day) and then Sarawak (4 days).

Avoid Philippines as there are too many island may steal your time but if you have time...then include it and also Bali by Airasia which is so cheap.

But the friends you may know before setting off may not include Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam

Cut cost by staying in YMCA and temples (if no YMCAs)

Swallow........ the nun will tell you I am Peter pan....never older than 38 every year. Can you walk up 270 steps with a knee that is still healing from old injury of hiking mountains.

I have driven in out of Thailand umpteen times before Thailand had its recent military rule. Today it is not so safe to travel that place.

And yes, before the ASEAN financial contagion, I had driven across the Java peninsula from Jakarta to Jogjakarta. Even been to Padang which just had a tsunami that was reported on line....so it depends how we want to travel.....and the resources we hv on hand.

How would you want to travel and when would you want to do it? Every journey begins with a little step.... make yours now.... to beijing to see me?

Goal Gold,

You are not only an economist but an time economic traveller. Think abt the effect of your style and DVC 's style, which will do financially good to these ASEAN countries? slow or flash travellers?

Pls make a study.

    Quoting  :

that is absolutely fine....IF YOU HAVE TIME !

I like that too .... the itinery is just for ppl who want to cover a lot with less time resouces....

So...you can negotiate an regular column assignment with a swiss paper to park yourself in Beijing for a two months and wander the streets of Beijing on a bicycle.... that would be wonderful indeed. Then repeat for other places.....

My friend, heck rushed is your itinerary!

Who is so frenzy and energetic to rush here and there in the wonderal ASEAN? Slow down and see/enjoy more, buddy.

I am a man man snail -- for 35 days, i would just concentrate on N. Thailand and a bit of Laos.
okay.... man man fei (fly slow).... my ASEAN passport has more freedom among ASEAN countries so I can fei in out.

N.Thailand is nice but language is a hurdle in North ASEAN as well as hygeine.
