Am I Richer? I had lunch with two friends, a teacher of German and a professor of Asian American literature. We talked about the prices of ovary maintenance in beauty parlor and sauna house over the meal. Having been told that I have tried both the two places, the professor who drives to the campus and lives in one of the most expensive flats in Shenyang said, "Hey, you are richer!" Blinking my eyes at her, I was suprised at what she said, for I don't have the same material stuff as she does. Staring at me, she said, "I mean you are richer in spiritual wealth." We laughed, and I showed my agreement: yes, I am richer in spiritual wealth: healthy ways of living, tranquil mind and liberty. The reason why I do not hunger for marriage is that I am afraid of losing my spiritual health.
