Caught thieves!!

As some of you may know, I work for a security company.

Well 2 thieves did a smash and grab on one of our cars and ran off with a sat nav.

Car alarm goes off, MD's office overlooking car park and he runs off down the stairs like a bat out of hell. We see him go through the fence after 2 guys, one on a bike. 5 of us run and take 4 cars to chase them.

Luckily one of us catches up with the pair - tries to knock off one on the bike but fails. The other thief who's on foot cuts across some grass and slips over on the mud and is promptly held down by one of us running after him. He's screaming all the usual things under the sun and the police turn up within 10 mins. You can't out-run a semi-pro sportsman!

Both thieves looked like they had gloves on too so it was premeditated and unlikely to get finger-prints.

Still, made a lively afternoon.

No not me, well not yet I hope, but I had to terminate 21 people today!! I'm now preparing for some tribunal cases as my GM did not want to follow correct procedure or my supposed 'expert' advice. Still, he's the boss I suppose and if anything comes back it's not on my head!

Well I just completed this at my parents home. My dad payed £70 for somebody to set everything up. What a waste of money! All they did was plug the leads in, turn it on and set up the cable modem!! I left everything in place with all CD ROMS and passwords for them to do. I installed Office myself, did all the email addresses and the bulk of the packaged software is pre-installed! I came back from work then downloaded firewall, AV and ad-aware software and job done! The install guy was asked to set up dad's digital video camera but they couldn't do it, doh!

It seems a little odd that I am trusted to administer the company pension scheme but I do not have one myself. Our company, like all other UK companies, is obliged to offer at the very minimum what's called a stakeholder pension scheme, that is the employee pays all their own contributions. I have twisted my MD's arm and opened up his wallet to kick off a company contributory pension scheme ie one which the company pays a percentage of your salary (subject to qualifying conditions, but I will ensure I am on it!). Both spensions are in effect private pensions and are seperate to the state pension (which you could never live on anyway).

I know the tax and finances as a whole vary from country to country but what sort of provision have you made for later in life?

I'm only 26 and will begin my pension (private) contributions this year. If I was workign in the public sector I would get something like 6% contribution but I think I will be lucky 3%.

If I can negotiate 3% then I will match that with my own too. You are quids in as we say as this money comes out before any tax and National Insurance and other deductions is applied and the return is tax free too.

I will then in the future look at property for capital growth and income and possibly some small ish business investment to provide income.

In 10 years it has been possible to see returns of 100% on properties in my area without even trying. Some parts of the UK show far higher returns.

There is a 'scam' of sorts where people buy property off plan well before the build has commenced and sell on their option before the build is complete and make several £1000s without even having to move any money.

In case you cared our next management meeting is to sail from the south coast to the Isle of Wight in the MD's boat, have breakfast on board. Land, play games, eat, drink and sail home. It would be more fun if the weather was warmer!!! Still I can't complain and at least I will have to do little work before Chinese New Year this weekend

Well Virgoserpent has posted asking my whereabouts so I thought I better drop inand write something. What I will write I am not sure yet lol.

To start with I had plenty of time off over the xmas and new year period. I spent most of the time with my family and gf's family which was nice. I saw a few of my friends too which is always a pleasure. I still have 6 days holidays to take before the end of March, well 4 actually as I have booked 2 already.

As for work, it has been fairly busy. We, or rather I, am still preparing and readying everybody for the new legislation that hits our industry in mid-March. Glad to say I am on track and in our last management meeting I got a verbal pat on the back from my MD and GM. Time to ask for a pay rise lol. My sister's time working for me has just come to an end. She has secured a new permanent role with the government body that regulates financial services in the UK.

This coming month I'm sure you all know is Chinese New Year. Have a good one! I will be in Oxford with friends and family and the weekend following I have arranged a get together with some old uni friends in London and at my place.

That's it for now

Dates - breaking the mould?

So, where have you taken your current/last boyf/girlf out on a date? Is it ever even that formal?

I hate the word date as it just sounds so stuck up and pretentious. When I think of 'dates' I think of awkward encounters, spilt drinks and conversational faux-pas. I have never taken my girlf on a 'date' to the cinema or theatre, although we have been to the cinema once, with her little brother after about 3 months or so! We've never even been to a swanky restaurant and I've never taken her on a shopping trip where I said I would buy everything and anything. We have been to an art gallery though, but even then we spent more time gossiping about passers by and commenting on their dress etc than looking at any art.

I guess that type of thing is just not me, and just as well she doesn't mind too much!!

Planning for new year's eve parties

As usual I or my friends have made no plans per se. I can count about 2 times where we planned in advance, ie at the beginning of december if not sooner, what we were going to do.

I can distinguish roughly 2 groups of friends in my social circle. 1 is my friends from school and way back the other is friends from university. Actually, I have never spent new year's with my university friends although I should have on a few occasions. All my new year's have been spent with my school friends or family and family friends. I am certain this year will be great
