Thanks for showing me the path when I couldn't see the light.

Thanks for making me feel appreciated when I felt down.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do something good and special.

Thanks for trusting me and giving me responsibilities.

I am sorry that we didn not have the chance to meet one more time.

It is always too late, isn't it... but I'll never forget.

RIP

Another time again, I was out with a friend (male). We went to an Irish pub where they had live band playing...

As we were having a chat, there she comes, a very attractive and voluptuous blonde, stops by us, and asks: "do you have a lighter?"

None of us smoked, hence we did not have one...

She just walked away... how rude!

Ever since then, I've been keeping a lighter in my backpack... but never has the same happened again...

But anyway, who cares? I wouldn't want to go with a smoking girl...

A number of people have written posts on the effects on humans and their reactions after the earthquake...

But why did it happen in the first place?

The Earth is far from being a solid geometrical volume. In this case, the rupture of the rocks that created the destructive seismic waves occurred along a fault situated approximately along the base of the mountainous region to the west of Chengdu. In simple words, the mountainous region has moved towards the east, closer to Chengdu.

It moved, because it was pushed by the northward movement of India, that caused part of central Asia to be pushed aside. A similar thing happens with earthquakes in Afganistan and Pakistan, but in opposite directions.

At least for once, you can't blame G.W. Bush...

It's complicated

...it's been a while I know... I am struggling to come up with an excuse, but anyway...

Here is what's complicated...

I met this girl, nice, in a different continent though... and then had to leave her, of course...

...but I was planing to return to her, get my way into that country, and live happily ever after together...

After a while though our conversation became almost non-existent... I thought that distance had had yet another victim...

...just move one will'ya...

But that made me also realize... I can't plan my life's decisions on another person. I first got to get to where I want...

Now, spring must have re-warmed the girl's heart, or something like that, because she is suddely again keen on relating to me... But I let her know, that my mind had changed, and although I still liked her, now I want to get myself sorted, before considering "where" to go... and as I see it now, I might not want to be there, where she is, for a while yet...

She is obviously not happy...

Am I being selfish? I don't think so. I am just not prepared to give up my dreams...

Does that mean that I don't love her enough, hence I should just cut the ties now... the early the best?

...as I said... it's complicated!

Engineers again...

To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers?

Mechanical Engineers build weapons -- Civil Engineers build targets.

Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied: "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, 'Take what you want.'" The second engineer nodded approvingly: "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit."

When I was 12 or down that way, I was in summer camp once, with my school, and the teachers had organized a dancing night.

I was one of the oldest around... it was most primary school (6-11).

There was one girl that I liked, and I wanted to dance the whole night with her. But there was another girl, who wanted to dance with me... but she was just a ... (I mean... I was too... but she was even more... maybe 7 or

The girl that I liked, knew about that, so, after saying that she also wanted to dance the whole night with me, she changed her mind... she wanted me to dance with that other much younger girl...

????

I think that was the first instance that made me wonder wheter girls are sane or not...

I was obviously annoyed with that much younger girl, who had spoilt my night... so after dancing once with her, I abandoned her on the dance floor and left...

Years later, when I was about 20 or so, while walking the dog, I crossed a gorgeous looking girl, ...the "night spoiling" girl of course... she had become quite a piece!

And some time later again, I read in the newspaper that she had won a beauty context of sorts...

uhmmm... I should have kept dancing with her that famous night, but my love for the other girl, had blinded me... awwwhhh...

The picture is from the recent excursion... nothing to do with either girls...

As I wrote before, I just returned from an excursion in the desert...

"what a place to have an excursion" you'll wonder... well, it's a place like another for a geology class... hehehe

We left full of hopes on a Friday evening after sunset. The coach was big and we almost had two seats each or at least, I had… since I’ve got long legs We made our way north, but two hours into the trip, the bus broke down… a problem with the battery, hence we remained stranded for a couple of hours on the side of the road, waiting for a mechanic to turn up… two hours later, and there we were on the road again, but not for long… the battery was still off… and again, had to wait another couple of hours in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere, trying to get as mush sleep as possible… trying to get some comfort, some students laid on the floor, others massed up at the back… it was a human puzzle… eventually though, we made it through… instead of arriving at 8am, we got to our destination at 2 pm…

7 days of exhausting field work and exams followed… again walking up and down hills, taking measurements and observations, and staying up at night until 11 to complete the work due. But all together it became another unforgettable field trip. How often do you have the privilege to wander around and sit for an exam in the desert? Or walk into a huge spider web? Or run after a goanna to take a picture? Or taking a shower with wood-fire heated water? Or dig out the bus stuck in a gully?
Of course it was not all as pleasant as it sounds , and on day one, the count of the students standing on their own feet was down by 10%, with people suffering from heat exhaustion and various pains… but the food was good, and good food is the best to keep the morale up…

Most spectacular of all though is the night sky. you could see so many stars which is unimaginable. Could have spent the whole night stearing at the sky... but after 17 hours of work, the eyes shut by themselves...

Then, on the afternoon of the last day, after the field exam, we got on the coach again, on our way back home, full of hopes that this time the bus would handle the 1000 odd km… but those hopes were soon let down… The coach was even older than the one which had brought us there and the air-conditioned dripped water all over the place, and once again, in the middle of the night, the thing broke down once more… this time around though the repair was quicker, and we made it back to Perth with just a little delay. And that in few words was my “study break”!

The picture portrays a goanna... hey goan, how to make oil out of that?

Other pictures will follow in my next posts
