By now you know that the Coronavirus pandemic has spread more than 180 countries in the world. The communist countries such as Russia and North Korea have closed their borders as soon as China coronavirus outbreak. Russia and N. Korea have the least confirmed case.

Prevention - Wear mask, wash your hands thoroughly, keep social distance of 6 feet, if you go out. By now, most restaurants closed down for dine-in customers, but only take-out or delivery are available.

Trump has ordered 3M to make surgical masks and N95 masks as fast as they can make. There are nowhere you can buy masks, Purell hand sanitizer, even toilet paper. I do have some masks but not enough to change every day. I wear gloves when go out. I don't use sanitizer, but wash my hands with soap frequently. I have installed "bidet toilet seat" in my house, so I came back from Italy trip in Nov 20/18. Bidet toilet seat can spray water to wash your butts clean, so no need toilet paper. I like Bidet and it is popular in France, Italy and Japan, especially Japanese bidet toilet seat has hot air to dry your butts. I have been to these 3 countries.

Trump ordered GM, Ford and Tesla automakers to make ventilators instead of making cars. It sounded weird at first, but now I understand how fast of Coronavirus has spread to the world.

Treatment (therapy) - A bio-tech company called Gilead Sciences has developed "Remdesivir" that used to use for SARS and MERS, but now it also works on novel Coronavirus too. But it is very expensive and insurance not cover this drug. Remdesivir only available in USA with patent protection. I heard China is trying to make smidgen of Remdesivir, not enough for vast patients. Taiwan is also making Remdesivir, but only few mg.

Test agents - China and USA uses blood test for coronavirus. It takes few days to get the result back. Taiwan has developed using cotton swab on saliva in the mouth, it only take minutes and you don't need get out of your car. You roll down the window in front of medical care personnel, open your mouth and health personnel put a cotton swab into your mouth. You drive away, wait for minutes, the result will come out. It is very accurate and fast.

Vaccine: There is Regeneron Pharmaceuticals has invented a vaccine, but they need at least a yr or 18 months 2 do animal test and human test before obtaining approval from FDA. I always have "Flu vaccine" every winter since I passed 60 y/o.

Shame on Zhao Lijian 赵立坚, CCP spokesman

Zhao Lijian tweeted on Twitter as follows:

1. Chinese spox: We hope certain US officials could focus on domestic response & international cooperation instead of trying to shift the blame to China by denigrating Chinese efforts to fight the epidemic. This is immoral & irresponsible, & will not help mitigate COVID-19 in US.

Just take a few minutes to read one more article. This is so astonishing that it changed many things I used to believe in. Please retweet to let more people know about it.

2. Chinese spox: Some US official accuses China of "covering up". Well, the world knows better whether China is open & transparent. We do not comment on if US response is open & transparent, but obviously, someone in US still turns a deaf ear to international appraisal on China.

3. Chinese spox: Countries like Singapore, ROK took necessary measures & put the epidemics under control because they made full use of this precious time China bought for the world. As for whether US availed itself of this window, I believe the fact is witnessed by US &the world.

4. Chinese spox: As a Chinese saying goes, "Turn inward & examine yourself when you encounter difficulties." We urge the US officials to respect facts. Every minute wasted on smearing & complaining would be better spent on enhancing domestic response & international cooperation.

I have known a 80 y/o Dutch woman at 24hr Fitness Aqua Aerobics class for years. She came to USA more than 60 yrs ago, and love to travel. She has traveled 70 or 80 countries. She had a marketing and sale job when young and travel a lot around the world. She was married for several yrs but they both had jobs and couldn't get much time together and divorced when young, no , no 2nd marriage. She has at least two trips in a year, but some years 4 or 5 trips. She has high passion in traveling and is bilingual in Dutch and English.

Anyway, she recommended me to Italy trip for 36 days from Oct 15 to Nov 19 in 20/18. I got one hundred dollars discount due to her referral and she also got discount for her next trip. She has traveled around the world and been to same countries several times.

We have planned to have Rhine and Moselle rivers cruise together from mid-July to early August for 15 days this year. We both paid in full in Nov 20/18 when I returned from Italy. We even selected airplane aisle seats separately by the aisle in same row from L.A. to Amsterdam.

This cruise trip first starts from her country, Amsterdam, Netherlands, to get on the river boat (smaller than ship), the itinerary includes France, Luxembourg, Germany, and Switzerland.

However, due to the Coronavirus spread to Europe, we decided to postpone to next year. The travel agency said no refund but we can use the full amount of voucher for the same trip next year.

US House unanimously passes TAIPEI Act

Bill to to protect Taiwan against Chinese pressure campaign passes 415 to 0 in US House of Representatives

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday (March 4) unanimously passed the Taiwan Allies International Protection and Enhancement Initiative Act (TAIPEI Act).

The lightly revised TAIPEI Act was passed with a unanimous vote of 415 to zero, reported CNA. The bill, which aims to discourage Taiwan's diplomatic allies from cutting ties with the island country due to pressure from Beijing, had also been unanimously approved by the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee on Oct. 30.

The TAIPEI Act was first introduced in the Senate by Cory Gardner (R-CO ) and Chris Coons (D-DE) last May, with Republican congressman from Utah John Curtis unveiling a similar version in the House in October. According to U.S. legislative procedure, the Senate and House must coordinate on passing identical versions of the TAIPEI Act before it can be signed into law by President Donald Trump.

The bill requires the State Department to induce governments that are allies of Taiwan to maintain diplomatic ties with the country and to identify those at risk of severing relations with it. The bill also calls for the U.S. to supplement its diplomatic presence in countries that support Taiwan and reduce its diplomatic footprint if they side with Beijing.

The bill would give the secretary of state the power to expand, reduce, or terminate U.S. aid to countries depending on whether they improve, worsen, or sever diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The draft law then calls for increased American support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations either as a member or observer.

In addition, legislation requires the U.S. president to provide weapons to Taiwan to meet "existing and likely future threats" from Communist China and to encourage the travel of high-level U.S. officials to Taiwan in line with the Taiwan Travel Act. It also calls on the president to advocate Taiwan's membership in all international organizations "in which statehood is not a requirement" and to grant Taiwan observer status in international organizations that do have that requirement.

An amendment originally added to the Senate version by Gardner and now included in the House version requires the U.S. to initiate bilateral trade negotiations with Taiwan with the goal of signing a free trade agreement (FTA) that is mutually beneficial, protects U.S. workers, and benefits U.S. exporters.

Speaking in support of the bill before its passage, Curtis said that the legislation accomplishes three important things: "First, it endorses a U.S.-Taiwan free trade agreement. Second, it supports Taiwan's membership in international institutions. And third, finally, this bill helps Taiwan maintain partners and allies around the world." Curtis said that the act would strengthen America's partnership with Taiwan and that it does so "without spending a single U.S. tax dollar."

Blocked bloggers changed their usernames to read my blogs

There are least 4 or more bloggers I've blocked who changed their usernames to read my blogs and commends. Then they posted new blogs to attack me. I know their tricks because they can't take the shame that I blocked them.

I have copied and pasted some articles into my blogs because I don't want to be accused that I spread the rumors. I spoke the truth because I believe in "honesty is the best policy". I wanted Chinese FriendFinder bloggers to know I wasn't the original author, so that I don't have the responsibility. Those articles are already in the news. However, those news can't reach to China because CCP not allow their people to know the truth. CCP is very "thin skinned" for their mistakes they have done in the past and recently and in the future.

Trump's wife, Melania plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech for Trump's campaign speech in 20/ election.

I am very anti-communists based on how CCP treated their people in the history and their cover-up the Coronavirus truth and delayed the treatments. Dr. Li is an example that he posted that he suspected a new virus on 7 patients in Wuhan city and warned his medical colleagues to be careful. Dr. Li had been called to CCP that he had spread rumors and told him to sign and fingerprint on a paper that he understood he spread the rumors. CCP's wrong judgement about Dr. Li's warning caused the whole world spreading. CCP even said that USA needs to apologize to China and appreciate what CCP has done the treatment for virus. Dam*n CCP. CCP don't know their shames.

Some Western bloggers (including an American and Aussie) sympathized CCP and when I posted Cultural Revolution, they attacked me severely, so that I had to block them. Then they changed their usernames to post blogs to attack me. Cultural Revolution is a fact, nobody can deny. CCP dreamed to become a world economy leader that surpass USA, it is a pipe dream. We will see China's first quarter GDP growth % by end of March.

Honesty is the best policy. Do not post fake news, fake rumors.

The head of the religious sect that has been at the center of the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea has apologized to the nation for the disease's spread.

Lee Man-hee, the leader of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, got on his knees and bowed at a news conference.

About 60% of the country's more than 4,000 confirmed cases are sect members. Deaths nationwide now stand at 28.

Fatalities globally have now passed the 3,000 mark, although the vast majority are in China, where the outbreak began.

Worldwide, there have been almost 90,000 confirmed cases, with the numbers outside China now growing faster than inside China.

Prosecutors in South Korea have been asked to investigate Mr Lee on possible charges of gross negligence.

"Although it was not intentional, many people have been infected," said the 88-year-old leader. "We put our utmost efforts, but were unable to prevent it all."

Of the confirmed cases, about 75% are from the southern city of Daegu and 73% of those have been linked to the Shincheonji Church.

In the capital, Seoul, the mayor urged the city's 10 million residents to work from home and to avoid crowded places.

The old saw used be that "when the U.S. sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold".

Now, a more apropos adage for market bears may be that "when an outbreak of Coronavirus grinds the world's second-largest economy a halt, the rest of the world catches a recession".

Wuhan Coronavirus has spread from China the world, the more serious countries including Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong now Italy, Egypt, .... It effects traveling industry and hotel reservation being cancelled. Masks and gloves shortages. Cities and towns lockdown for quarantine. Streets are empty. Food prices raised.

Wuhan mayor said there were estimated 5 million people escaped out from Wuhan city before Xi announced to lockdown Wuhan on January 23rd. Those 5 million Chinese either went to other cities in China, or go abroad to many countries, Japan, S. Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, Italy. Many countries weren't aware of the Coronavirus spreading and let those people into their countries. There is a 80 y/o S. Korean woman went to church to worship their god and spread out virus to more than 153 persons in church.

Coronavirus outbreak is No "Black Swan", it is "Gray Rhino" event

Coverage of the coronavirus outbreak in China includes maddening references to the outbreak as a “black swan” –that is, a high-impact event that is utterly unforeseeable and unmanageable.

Once you can imagine something, by definition it is no longer a black swan. If you can’t imagine that something has happened before cannot happen again, you are the proverbial ostrich with your head stuck deep in the sand.

Coronavirus demonstrates how dangerous it is to rely on the myth of the black swan metaphor, which unfortunately more often gets used as a cop-out than for its intended use: as a to build more resilient systems.

Given what we know about pandemics and their increasing likelihood, outbreaks are highly probable and high impact. I coined the term “gray rhino” for exactly such events: obvious, visible, coming right at you, with large potential impact and highly probable consequences.

No, we don’t know exactly when or where pandemics will erupt. Nor do we know exactly how they will turn out. That does not mean they are unforeseeable. Very few predictions include that kind of detail –partly because the outcomes depend on how proactive we are in preparing to respond, and whether or not we act quickly.

What we do know is that they will happen. We also know that global air travel –by increasing the likelihood of — and climate change –by expanding the habitat of the kinds of mosquitos that carry Dengue, Zika, and other deadly viruses— have increased their potential strength and likelihood of spreading. We also know that overuse of -particularly antibiotics- has led to more drug-resistant strains of infection.

It should not be a surprise that infectious diseases made the top ten risks in terms of impact on this year’s World Economic Forum Global Risks Report.

By some estimates an influenza pandemic like the one that killed my great-grandfather in 19/18, today could kill 80 million people and knock 5% off of the global economy. And that’s just a strong flu, not a more deadly corona or Ebola type virus.

We also happen to know more than a little about the kinds of things we can do to reduce their danger –but unfortunately have invested too little in best practices.

Pandemics –epidemics that have crossed national borders—have been a constant throughout history, recorded as far back as 430 BC in Athens to the Black Death of the fourteenth century, the European diseases brought by Columbus to the New World and which devastated indigenous populations, and extending through the 1918 Spanish Flu, which killed my great-grandfather. And of course more recently SARS, H1N1, Ebola, and MERS.

The image above is of MERS to drive home that we have seen outbreaks of deadly viruses before; not only can we imagine them but we have very clear images of what they look like.

The World Health Organization tracked 1,483 epidemic events in one hundred seventy-two countries between 20/ and 20/18. It has raised the alarm that the world is not prepared for the next pandemic, despite viral outbreaks being such a clear and present danger. In a September 20/19 report, called for concrete actions to lessen the risk, including stronger commitments by heads of state, countries, and regional bodies to invest in preparing for pandemics; regularly tracking preparedness; increasing funding, particularly for developing countries with weak health systems; improving international coordination.

The best way to catch outbreaks early and contain them is to have a robust healthcare system. While this is most crucial in developing countries with severe healthcare deficits that mean they have trouble handling the most common issues, don’t think that the United States is immune (so to speak). Far too many people don’t get the health care they need because of the . There were about 28 million uninsured non-elderly Americans in 2018. Many people with insurance put off trips to the doctor because of the and/or time. Fewer than half of Americans, for example, get the flu vaccine.

As of this writing, more than 80 people have died and more than 3000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed, mostly in Greater China. Along with China, cases have emerged in Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, Canada, France, and across the United States, including (yikes) here in Chicago and elsewhere in the United States. By the time you read this, the data will be out of date.

I woke up this morning to read the harrowing account of a friend had been in Wuhan and developed a cough and slight fever when she returned to Malaysia, and was quarantined in a hospital while waiting what seemed like an interminable amount of time to get her test results –thankfully, negative for coronavirus. “Just” the regular flu.

The World Health organization said on Friday that it’s too early to the coronavirus a global outbreak. Despite its stated emphasis on preparedness, as of this morning had still not yet called the new coronavirus a global health emergency, citing in part China’s aggressive efforts to contain the virus.

China detected the virus December 29th because it had put in place an early-alert system, and within two weeks had analyzed, identified, and released its genetic code globally. As of January 24, it had quarantined cities with a combined population of 35 million.

The Oslo-based Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations is working on a vaccine which it expects to be able to test on human subjects within weeks.

Some self-styled Western health “experts” on Twitter called China’s quarantine and the rising global concern over the coronavirus an over-reaction, noting that the flu kills many more people each year than those identified to date. After all, the CDC’s annual flu burden report for the current season reports that as of January 18 preliminary numbers based on its weekly survey include between 8,200 and 20,000 flu deaths, between 0K and 250K hospitalizations, and between and 21 million cases in the United States.

To be sure, that’s a lot more in terms of total numbers but a much lower mortality rate of about 0.008 %, far below even the mildest pandemics. Between 3 and 4 % of those infected with this coronavirus, unceremoniously dubbed 2019-nCoV, die from it, and about 25 % get extremely ill. Those numbers likely will change as more data comes in. Estimates of mortality rates for past influenza pandemics have ranged from about 0.1 % (19/57 and 19/68 pandemics) to 2.5 % (19/18 pandemic) to % (SARS) to 37 % (!!!) for MERS.

This is a good illustration of the relationship between probability and impact. It is likely enough that this is a virulent enough strain that it could escalate even further, and fast. We don’t know enough yet about transmission or mortality rates of 2019-nCoV. But we do know enough to take it very seriously.

And we know the situation and what we know about it will continue to evolve quickly. Live updates are available at the Washington Post or The New York Times. Check out this excellent article from The Lancet for more on this virus. You can bet there will be lots of ongoing coverage on other media as well. Wherever you get your news, watch out for overly politicized or hysterical accounts as well as any that pooh-pooh the threat. And just toss out anything that claims nobody could have seen it coming.
