产品评论: 爱或者不喜欢 product reviews: love or hate

I want to buy a new lawn mower.
So, I checked online and found several.
Which one to buy?
I'm unsure.
So, I read the product reviews to see what others (who bought this model) have found.
The first said "bad product, don't buy it"
The next one said "great product, buy it"
The third said "bad product, don't buy it"
The fourth one said "great product, buy it"

This is confusing.
What a risk that the reviews are totally opposite.
I cannot use such information...
I must physically inspect the merchandise and make my own judgment before making a purchase.
At this point, online product reviews are really worthless.

Physically inspecting the merchandise does not necessarily mean the item will perform as expected. User hands on experience is always more dependable. So reviews can be very useful in buying an item. You must weed out the good and bad.

Look for a web site that allows users to rate the item (such as 1 to 5 stars) and also allows the users to post a comment related to why they gave it 1 or 5 stars.

Lets say we are looking to buy a screw driver. and we see 5 Good reviews and 5 bad. Focus first on the 5 bad reviews and actually read them.

Example bad review #1: "This tool is junk, do not buy! I used a hammer on the handle and it broke" I ignore this review because it is improper use of a tool.
Example bad review #2: "Cheaply made! I left it in the rain and it got rusty" I will ignore this review because the tool did not claim to be rust resistant.
Example bad review #3: "Worst tool ever! I stabbed my leg 3 times" This one is obvious to ignore.
Example bad review #4: "No good! I could not loosen a screw it won't fit" - ignored.
Example bad review #5: "I tried to pry open my window and it bent!" Improper use of a tool, ignored.

So as you can see, by eliminating the bad reviews for obvious reasons, you can end up with 5 good reasons why you should consider buying the item.

~ I am glad I only paid for 3 months! ~

Mr H... typically I disqualify product reviews that sound like a rant and complain about things that are irrelevant or not important.

For example... a review of the latest HTC cellphone has one reviewer giving it a low score because the glossy plastic top back cover can show fingerprints.
It's a 'non-issue' because all the people I know use a gel/silicone case to protect their phones. You will never see the back cover when the phone is in it's case!
What is important is how the phone operates, battery life, reception, audio quality.

Thanks for your comment!
