People with two first names...

This used to annoy my dad. From the TV series The Millionaire, Michael Anthony was the executive secretary to multi-millionaire John Beresford Tipton, Jr.
Each week Michael Anthony would give away a million dollars.

That must have been the start of it for my dad and it followed him throughout his life.

A few months ago at a birthday picnic I got into a bunch of funny conversations and brought up the subject of 's names. Of course I stated the difficulty of naming your if your last name happens to be a first name. Often the gets teased throughout his/her life.

What 'really got them rolling' when I mentioned "If your last name is Dover, don't name your Ben" I had to explain that to my sister-in-law... Ben-Dover.

It took a few seconds for her to get it, but right after, she and another woman were laughing so hard they were in tears!

She asked how I could think up something like that and I explained my older brother and I used to play name games a lot. We created fake names for brothers and sisters of famous people. For example... did you know Lana Turner had a sister? Her name was Stomach.
Jack Lemon has a sister named Sour.
Actor John Bird has a sister Song.

...and remember. If your last name is Rupt, don't name your Bank.

Maybe next time I can blog about people with three first names... Jan Michael Vincent comes to mind.

I think America has a real issue with names especially if they don't fit the tradition and standards of common white society names.
It took a long time before people did not ridicule many Asian based on their names as well as today, there is a lot of ridicule of many black women because of their names since the 1970's. But as long as they were name Betty, Susan, Jane and etc... there was no problem, but when they chose names to reclaim an a distinction of ethnic identity, the ridicule came fast and hard.

Remember in the Movie "Roots", how the white man beat the black man (Kunta Kinte, until he accepted the name "Toby"). Today, people don't use the lash, but they still beat people based on names, the beating often comes in the form of denials, hold back and many other forms, but still there is a long ways to go in society to accept names of different ethnic people.
There are many Asian who come to America, and use an America Translation of their name, the same was true with many Irish and other ethnic people, who changed part of their name to appease the system of American bias, so they can be more acceptable.

Names are unique to individuals, regardless to how many times the same name is used to denote different individuals, it still become distinct to the individual... "It's very interesting how that works out in life".

I knew a guy who's last name was Garcia-Garcia - people often called him G2

Go... she works for the post office and is very literal... she didn't realize the 'joke thing' in the name.
