6.1 earthquake in Southern China...

From the news story this morning, there was a strong earthquake in Southern China's Yunnan province in the city of Ludian. Located between Kunming and Luzhou.
My research shows that in 1974, there was a 7.0 earthquake in the nearby city of Zhaotong and another in the area in 2012.

First reports an estimated 12,000 homes destroyed and at least 175 dead and more than 1,400 injured.

Hopefully disaster rescue teams can get help to these people quickly!

Thanks for reading my blog. Sorry, it wasn't a happy one.

These are far too many lives to be lost,

As China learns what it took Japan a long time to learn.. Is how to build better structures to deal with Earthquakes, it will have no choice but to embark on better construction and upgrades to extreme rural areas and equally so deal with floods and mud/landslide. It will need to be a massive undertaking to protect the vast numbers who need to be protected.

I hope there is not high increase in the number of lives lost or maimed.
