Slow down... there's a dead guy on the highway!

Picture this... Night time road construction, warning signs, flashing lights, barricades, traffic cones where 5 lanes squeeze down to 2. For months this has been going on and tonight is no different. Sometimes it's only a single lane blocked, other times it's more. Tonight it appeared they were installing signage on the median structures.

My niece calls to say she arrived at the airport 20 miles away. She is unable to get a ride from friends and a taxi is a small fortune. Uber isn't a good idea from the airport, so I went to pick her up.

It's midnight and I'm nearing the spot where the lanes merge together. 30 cars in front of me have their brake lights on as we slow down to a crawl. I looked in my rearview mirror and see a few cars approaching at a high rate of speed!! I started pumping my brakes to serve as a warning and all but one seemed to realize THEY NEED TO STOP.
The one car who wasn't paying attention swerves onto the shoulder narrowly avoiding an accident.

Yeah, it looks like someone else (before us) wasn't heeding the warning signs and as we moved up there already was an accident... it looks like 4 maybe 5 cars involved.
One guy walking in circles has his hands on his head in disbelief because he's 20 feet from a dead guy laying on the highway.

As we pass the accident site only a few hundred feet ahead is the actual construction work. Right after, traffic eases and we regain normal speed despite the lane closures... it never ceases to amaze me the number of cars speeding past as though they are in a race and need to compensate for lost time from the construction.
