Cellphone Math: an interesting calculation...

I was on a jobsite the other day marking the floor for cabinet locations needed by the electricians and plumber. With a shop drawing and tape measure, I started striking some lines. Doing numbers in my head first, I thought I would verify things with the calculator in my cellphone.
Something wasn't right... the numbers weren't the same, so I wrote it down and added them on paper... Twice.

Here, you try:

40 + 30 times 2
I'm expecting the answer to be 140

That night, I came home and tried it on my other cellphones.
Same answer.

Trying it on a calculator yields a totally different response.
An iPhone will get the same answer as Android phone.
My 10 year old Blackberry gave the same answer as my calculator.

Yes, I now know why. I'm thinking of all the other times I didn't realize the outcome was different than what I wanted or expected.

Yes, there is an order. If I type 40+30= *2 the answer is 140

Standard calculators don't require the operator to press = but you do on a cellphone. I'm guessing because they are setup to do scientific equations... making them really smart phones !!
