The 'IRS' called the other day... I happened to be home one morning this week when the phone rang, so I answered it. A prerecorded message had already started the instant I picked up the phone telling me they were the IRS making a last attempt to reach me before charges would be brought against me. I looked over at the caller ID to see who called and it showed a phone number and 'cell phone' as the name. Sure... we all know that the IRS doesn't call people... especially from a cellphone? Right?? Okay, some people don't know this and I'm guessing it's a viable business for scammers. Consider the odds... Let's say they have a computer setup that calls 1,000 people a week and 1 person falls for the scam loosing $2,000-$3,000. That's a lot of money for someone living in Ghana... actually, $3,000 a week is a lot of money for someone in America pressing buttons and waiting to catch a fish! Keep your wallet in your pocket. I'm told many of the scammers are calling from legitimate call centers during 'off hours' and one glitch is (once made) they cannot disconnect the call from their end. So, if you refuse to hang up they are forced to be online with you until you hang up. Is it true? I haven't tried it. Mute the phone and go to lunch....
