She's more than a lover...

My wife and I spend quality time together and I have to say she's become a part of me. We are best friends and I find that we share the same dreams and often the same thoughts.

While it's traditional to eat on dishes, we have no problem using paper plates as it's less work cleaning up after each meal. She was unwilling at first and now it's routine.

Some other conveniences have become normal now.

Miami is hot and humid in summer. For the first year together we had a fan in the window at night when we slept. That was okay until a swift breeze blew the fan out of the window (crashing to the floor) in the middle of the night. After that, it's been decided to use the air conditioner on a moderate temperature and we both are comfortable and not awakened in the night when it rains or when the wind blows.

Doing laundry involved stringing clothes lines in the bathroom and back utility room. I understand in China this is considered normal. When my family moved to Florida in the 1960's we also had special clothes lines in the back yard... my neighbors had them too!
I've had an electric dryer for years that is used for 99% of what gets washed. Towels are fluffy dry and everything is in shape. The thing I disliked about hanging clothes on the line was how distorted shirts became. I tried drying them on hangers and often they landed on the ground. the cost of an electric dryer probably adds $15 a month to my electric bill. My wife agrees as rain in the summer months comes so often, she can put things in the dryer and not worry about watching them.

I'm delighted that my wife has adjusted to life in America and I'm hoping that in years to come she will own a car and experience more independence and not have to wait on me to drive her places.
