Having a marshmallow and cellphone problems...

A few weeks ago my cellphone carrier offered a Google Android update. It upgraded my phone from android 5 Lollipop to version 6 Marshmallow. All of the Google versions have a name associated with something sweet. I guess they want their users to get diabetes and die early.

The update appeared to install well and took less than 20 minutes including some other application updates.

Visually, all the system icons have changed to a rounded corner square shape and the colors are bolder. Simple but clean lines. Probably more like a 'pure Google' phone would have.

Maneuvering around a little didn't seem to give any surprises. Mt email, text messages, photos, contacts all appear to be working at first.

I noticed the biggest problem (for me) was the text message icon that showed a single line 'ticker tape' was replaced by a popup window. the trouble with that was, it appears over the top of whatever you are doing and you must respond to it. If you are currently texting someone this popup blocks you from texting waiting for a response... even if it's from the person you texting. I'm sure they didn't give that app much thought. So, I turned that feature off.

A few days later, I noticed the screen movements were jittery. Restarting the phone didn't cure the problem. My GPS wasn't receiving signal and Bluetooth (that was giving problem in the past) was disconnecting from my earpiece.

Put these problems together and customer service authorized a return as I carry insurance for this device. The new (probably factory refurbished) comes with version 5 so I'm happy about that and turned off updates as version 6 attempted to fix things that weren't broken!
