Side Effects... or is that side Affects?

For the many years paid for cable bundled with my phone and internet service, I don't normally watch TV. I had 300+ channels at my fingertips through a TV that was a hand-me-down 19" flat screen. If I'm not mistaken, the receiver was analog. Since my TV signal came through a 'box' provided by the cable company, it didn't matter that the TV couldn't work with (the more recent) digital broadcast signals.

After marriage, my wife and I went shopping for a new TV. We ended up with a 42" model. I was looking for a cheap Smart TV but the salesman explained to us some differences in the picture quality limited by the 'Smart' circuitry so it was better (and cheaper) to go with a conventional one that had higher definition.

I'm drifting a little on this blog as I intended to do a Smart TV blog 2 years ago, but simply put... the video processor on the model I got could render faster. What does that mean? If you are watching sports... tennis for example and had 2 different models to compare, there was a small amount of 'blurring' on very fast action that was inherent to the processor of the current Smart TV's. Since I was looking for 'Smart' he suggested Google Chromecast for movies and streaming and it's worked well so far.

Like me, my wife isn't a TV person. We could go a few days and not miss it. She didn't watch too many shows in China and most everything was on what's called CCTV. I'm not sure if CCTV (which in America stands for Closed Circuit Television) is government run/sponsored, but flipping channels has a bunch of different CCTV stations.

I put up a $10 antenna and bring in a bunch of broadcast channels now. The main difference is cable limits the picture quality and you have to pay more for HD signals. If I'm watching a 1080P broadcast signal the image is perfect.

Back to my blog... One station we liked was ION Television. Marathons of movies and shows works for us. My wife has some trouble with English on shows like Criminal Minds, but she gets the gist enough to follow the episodes.

The only 'Side Effects' of watching ION TV are the sponsors... It could be 95% of the advertisements are pharmaceutically related. They ALWAYS state side effects for taking these medicines and some appear the complications for taking them could exceed the benefits. That part amazes me. It's like having an allergic reaction to a medicine for allergies!

The commercials suggest you should 'ask your Doctor about'. Yes, I know there are thousands and thousands of medicines on the market, but it's my opinion your Doctor should be asking you first if you want to try a medicine for your rare condition.

Thanks for reading my blog... read 2 and call me in the morning !

ION Television... Positively Entertaining !

Actually the only effect is I can sit on my back side for hours watching that station, but the same commercials every 15 minutes is annoying.

Moondog, that's in interesting comment. Earlier in the year I was on a boat cruise to a resort island in Mexico. Just past the port, walking the main road filled with tourist attractions were stores selling drugs that require prescriptions in the United States.

I was amazed to see signs advertising what was available that could be bought over the counter there.
