The Monkees reunion...

It's been 50 years since the 4-man musical group called The Monkees made it as TV sensations. Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz responded to an ad in Variety magazine looking for new talent and were hired. They had not worked together before that.
Without going into too much detail, it was said that studio musicians performed on the records and also backed them up on live performance as they were not high caliber musicians. If I'm not mistaken, for a short time Jimi Hendrix was part of the warmup band. He was onstage when they appeared in Miami.
Many early groups were fabricated by producers and record companies and all they had to do was follow the lead. Songs were written and performed others. The star only had to sing, appear in concerts and promotional events. The hard part was taken care of.
From what I have read, Guitarist Michael Nesmith disliked the artistic control their management had over them and insisted they play their own music on their records. It was shortly after their new releases had less appeal and The Monkees started to fade from the music scene.
Seeing personal differences, the group disbanded and each pursued solo careers.
Davy Jones passed away in 2012 at the age of 66 but the other members did concerts from time-to-time, usually without Nesmith.
This week, Nesmith had agreed to perform with his two other surviving Monkeey bandmates for the 50th.

I try not to interject opinion, but I saw videos of the performance and though it marked a musical milestone, I probably won't watch those videos again.
