Bad karma for the Karma drone...

GoPro the company famous for their take anywhere action cameras recently released a drone called KARMA. Different from other drones, the Karma has the ability to fold up and fit into a neat carry case. Not a toy like other miniature folding drones already on the market, the Karma is a full-size drone. Totally compact, it has other innovations and options like a 4K camera, interchangeable replacement parts, versions where you can use your existing GoPro camera and a hand-held grip for super smooth videos.

A handful of YouTube drone/blog experts were given pre-release versions to evaluate and upload their findings to spark interest in this new product.

Unfortunately for GoPro one week after their release, DJI, the high tech industry leader in drones released their latest product called the MAVIC PRO.
The MAVIC happens to be a drone nearly the rotor span as their successful Phantom series of drones, but it has retractable arms and a 4K camera.
More expensive and slightly larger than the Karma, the Mavic's two biggest features are it has a greater range and can handle higher wind gusts.

The latest feature of many drones is the ability to follow the user. So when you go down a ski slope or a bike trail, the drone can be programmed to follow. Surprisingly the Karma doesn't have this feature. That's amazing as GoPro is the brand of camera strapped to so many helmets shooting the action... Why did they leave this feature out? I'm not sure, perhaps it will come in a software update.

From what I've seen, the Mavic is getting a lot more attention now than the Karma.

Thursday, a coworker told me the Karma has had some serious technical problems, namely they are loosing power mysteriously and falling out of the sky.

GoPro has announced a recall on all Karma drones and the website has stated they are temporarily unavailable.

This could be the knife in the back for future Karma sales. There are a handful of new folding drones available. Some are smaller than a paperback book that you control from a cellphone, but only DJI has the ability to totally dominate sales of folding drones with the Mavic.

This is a clear case of bad karma for the Karma...
