Let there be LIGHT...

Hurricane Irma knocked out power on the east coast of Florida over a week ago. We've been keeping things going with a generator, marine batteries and power inverters. Food that would spoil was purchased on a daily basis and cooked soon after. My neighbors without backup systems suffered... we didn't.

I got home from work last night around 8:30pm to see the digital clock flashing 2:30 and estimate power came back up around 6pm. I checked the FPL website before I left the office and it showed the trouble ticket was still open. The first things we did was start laundry and swab the inside of the refrigerator with soapy bleach water.

It must be difficult time for everyone living there at the moment, hope helps provide by government to speed up a bit for normal living again. Regarding remedy for refrigerator odours, I throw in used tea bags and it works well for me.
Used? They are wet and would quickly freeze. Yes?

The refrigerator only lasted a few days after the power came back on. I suspect when the generator dropped voltage every time the compressor kicked in was enough to cause starting problems.
Since it was around 30 years old, I didn't feel bad replacing it. My wife absolutely loves the new refrigerator we got... especially that it was a floor model with a reduced price !!
