8.9 earthquak/fire/tsunami/nuclear meltdown in Japan

From the moment I knew the news about 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan, the oil refinery fire, the huge tsunami to nuclear meltdown. It is a catastrophe. I hardly can believe it is the same Japan (very clean) I went from 1/25 to 1/29/2011. The devastating tsunami swallowed everything, tossed the cars, boats, houses, .....in its path. We saw all this nature disaster from TV. Now the threat of nuclear meltdown, radiation leak and food & water contamination make things worse. This is human tragedy and my heart goes out to them.

Japanese show to the world that they are calm in dealing this unprecedented catastrophic nature disaster. There is no looting, or robbery or riot or nagging complain. I admire their spirit and culture.

The confirmed casualty is above 12,000 lives and 15,000+ still missing. I am afraid the death toll will go even higher. It is heart-wrenching to watch this nature disaster from TV.

There are over 700 aftershocks (over 5 magnitude) after that drastic 8.9 earthquake - CNN reported.

When I heard from CNN said there are 50 nuclear reactor workers left behind to cool down the reactors in order to save other people got radiation, my tears can't help to burst. I admire their heroic spirit, sacrifice themselves for the majority of people. In spite of they will get exploration of radiation, they stayed in their work to cool down the reactors.

Are we ready for a huge earthquake in California (CA is quake-prone)? Are we ready for a nuclear crisis? Be prepare !!

Earthquakes are caused by faulting, a sudden lateral or vertical movement of rock along a rupture (break) surface.

A tsunami is a large ocean wave that is caused by sudden motion on the ocean floor. This sudden motion could be an earthquake, a powerful volcanic eruption, or an underwater landslide. The impact of a large meteorite could also cause a tsunami. Tsunamis travel across the open ocean at great speeds and build into large deadly waves in the shallow water of a shoreline.
