Assimilation

I have emigrated to USA from Taiwan since 1980. It has been 35 and 1/2 years. I have pretty much been assimilated. Although I still have accent when speak English, but people understand me. I am a California licensed pharmacist and have to speak English, know some current events to communicate with people. I eat different kind of international food that unlike most of Chinese immigrants. "Do in Rome as Romans do".

I have right to vote just like any American. I have American friends and communicate in English daily. My two speak English with me.

If you want to live in USA, you should live the way as Americans. Otherwise, you will NOT happy. Life in USA is NOT easy. You need to have a skill, a job to survive. You should be willing to be assimilated.

When you buy property, you don't pay ALL CASH. You borrow loan from bank and build-up your credit. You need to be honest. Americans usually trust you, but once you failed their trust, it will take years to correct that mistake. You have to learn English well to the level Americans can understand you. American men are very smart, they don't just look on your beautiful face and sexy figure. They want counterpart and enjoy their humor and jokes.

Honesty is the best policy.

By the way, they don't take credit card or checks, CASH ONLY. No evidence. Paid first then they cook. No waiter, no waitress at that noodle shop. He put on counter, customers pick-up from counter. The noodle bowl is much smaller than the photos show.

USA has sales tax. In Los Angeles sales tax is the highest of 9%. Any amount you spent, you need to pay extra 9%.

Chinese immigrants came to USA, they run Chinese restaurants. Those smaller or medium size Chinese restaurants always have a sign says "CASH ONLY". They collect your money, but don't enter into "Cash Register" machine so nobody know how much they exactly make every day. They usually family own which is Okay, but they are NOT honest to pay tax to government and they charged sales tax but NOT paying that 9% sales tax to "Uncle Sam".

The thing made me very angry. Once night, I ate at a Chinese noodle shop, a small one. The photos of noodle bowls look good, so I order it and paid $8.80. I sat very close to cashier who doesn't speak English (Chinese ONLY). I looked how he operate his business. There only one person cook and one person collect money. His business is quite busy. There are no phone, no menu, no business card, no English sign. I was wondering why I paid $8.80 and why he didn't put into cash register, why $8.80 in cash? There was an American pointed to the noodle picture, paid cash, but the owner gave him the wrong one. They had arguments, so I did the "translation" for them. So the customer paid more and the owner cook another noodle bowl. I heard the noodle soup is $8 plus tax as I was eating the same bowl. I started to know he charged me 10% sales tax and NOT entered to cash register. That owner continue to charge everyone 10% sales tax and didn't enter cash into cash register.

The next day I walked into that same noodle shop asked him for business card. He said he doesn't have business card. If I want to order by phone. The phone number is ...... I asked him why I paid $8.80 cash and he didn't enter into cash register? His wife stood next to him (she wasn't there the night before) said if you want receipt, I can give you in writing. The guy said the noodle is $8.25 but we haven't changed the price so I charge you only $8.80 (that is less than 9% sales tax). He is a liar, he is doing business committed "Tax Fraud". I was very mad and left. Lots of customers are there.

I once own a pharmacy, I don't cheat tax or customer. Those new Chinese immigrants cheated government and customers full amount of money.

    Quoting 1ClassyLady:
I have lived and owned my residence in Rowland Hts, CA for 21 years. I have noticed ever since Sept of 2008 that China opened "Tourist Visa", more and more Chinese from mainland China come to Rowland Hts. For the past 4 or 5 years, more and more "pregnant Chinese women" on the street. They don't have car because they only stays about 2- 3 months to have baby and stayed a month and then go back to China. They talk in
Chinese loudly in public, they buy house in all cash. They walk on the street instead of driving. They eat only Chinese food. I have no clue they come here to have "American babies" then go back to China 18 years and come back to apply parents for US citizenship. What's good about to be Americans if you don't learn their language and been assimilated. To be U.S. citizen, you can vote, get SSI benefits, but you need to work for it. You can't fit in if you don't know the tax law. There are more MD, JD, banks, restaurants, .... can speak Mandarin Chinese in my town for those Chinese immigrants. Two American supermarkets (Vons and Albertson) closed down and new Chinese supermarkets replaced. OMG, Chinese assimilate USA in my town???

there are methods to "Report Them" and draw attention to their game plans, It has already been an piece written about this practice in Orange Country, If it is happening in your community, you have a right to report it and bring in the News Media.
Request the local media to do an investigative reporting segment on this.
They need to have something in place before birth certificates are issued, to manage this. Proof of Legal Residency, should be mandated before any Birth Certificate is issued.

I don't grasp the concept of people from Islamic regions who want to move to western nations, but still want to wear the attire of their religion or what ever it is connected to.
If I was to move some place, if I am not going to assimilate with the people, then I should not want to move there.
If I don't respect the culture and the laws, then I should not want to move there.
I should not expect to bring a religion and expect it to dominate.
If my religion does not like others, why would I move to places where people have a dominant religion I don't like.
I would never move to some place like Iraq, Iran, or any of the places that require women to cover up from head to toe, nor where men are expected to grow a beard (I can't grow one anyway )

I knew people from Iran, they were just like every other American in how they dress and how they socialize and they were not walking around trying to change people or expect people to follow any particular format. One was a business nature family, the other was a working family from Egypt, and they were mostly concerned with their kids doing well in school and fitting in.

I don't personally care for the garb they wear, even when I visited Thailand, I purposefully avoided places where people wore the traditional Muslim/Islamic garb.

I don't care for the mentality of Hindu toward their women and certainly don't support their mercy killing madness(ignorance) is how I see it.

I once worked with a guy who converted to Islam, he became the biggest arse hole imaginable, trying to tell people what to eat and a whole list of things. His wife finally packed up the kids and left while he was at work. She made sure he could not find her or the kids. He tried to make her cover her head and wear all that stuff, and she let him know it was not going to happen. No one cared to talk to the guy because he was so obsessed with trying to change everyone, and developed attitudes at the people who did not want to hear his spill.

I don't foresee the area where I live to become dominated by Islamic/ Muslim, I know there are some that live here because I see them in their attire, don't know what part of the city they live and really don't care. But I do know in the South, heck they still have KKK out in the very rural areas ( probably have them in the city too), but they are not on a rampage, (except those who are tripping about the Confederate Battle Flag).
Funny thing, when I first moved here, I use to ride my motorcycle out in the far areas of the countryside. Then people start telling me, that various areas were KKK, and they resented seeing anyone black with expensive things they could not afford, so I need to be careful.
I got a concealed weapons permit and continued to ride where I wanted to ride. I don't mess with people, and don't care for people messing with me. I will walk away before I start or participate in conflict, but one should not try and track me down, because then I'd have to become defensive in self protection mode. (that is true for anyone).
But its best to leave people to their doings and they leave me to mine.
I think everyone is "armed in this region", they have 'Gun Shows" every two or three months, and the people there fit all descriptions. and they buy weapons and they buy lots of ammunition. Therefore I don't think it would be good for Islamic/Muslim to go into any of these rural areas and try and dominate it.

There was a news story some months ago, about a girl that got burned to death, there were stories of gangs, racist groups and Muslim store owners where the gangs would hang out, I don't know the outcome of the story, but it was tied in a million ways to conflict that could exist with the gang, the store owner and the racist groups, because the article said the 'girl knew too much" and had contacted a writer to tell her story. It was very tragic and sad, as to what they did to the girl.

I just don't see many Southern Regions, Midwest Region that will be idle to see Islamic or Muslims come in and try and change things to favor themselves.
