Taiwan elected the first female president - Tsai, Ing-Wen 蔡英文

Ms Tsai, 59, leads the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that wants independence from China.

In her victory speech, she vowed to preserve the status quo in relations with China, adding Beijing must respect Taiwan's democracy and both sides must ensure there are no provocations.

China sees the island as a breakaway province - which it has threatened to take back by force if necessary.

In her speech, Ms Tsai hailed a "new era" in Taiwan and pledged to co-operate with other political parties on major issues.

The will of the Taiwanese people would be the basis for relations with China, Ms Tsai said.

"I also want to emphasise that both sides of the Taiwanese Strait have a responsibility to find mutually acceptable means of interaction that are based on dignity and reciprocity.

"We must ensure that no provocations or accidents take place," Ms Tsai said, warning that "any forms of suppression will harm the stability of cross-strait relations".

She thanked the US and Japan for their support and vowed Taiwan would contribute to peace and stability in the region.

Ms Tsai had a commanding lead in the vote count when Eric Chu of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) admitted defeat.

Mr Chu congratulated Tsai Ing-wen and announced he was quitting as KMT head. Taiwan's Premier Mao Chi-kuo also resigned.

People in China have wrong conception that Taiwan is just a providence of theirs and China is Taiwan's mother country. Because they have been told repeatedly this way. However, they didn't know in the bottom of our hearts in Taiwan, we want free from FEAR and independence.

We don't want to live under the threaten that they will attack us from air, sea and land. We don't want to live under poverty line. According to the YouTube video "China's ghost cities and malls" it said there are more than 7 million Chinese making $2 USD a day. OMG, I can't survive under that condition. I eat dinner $20 - $30 a meal not mention that I have to pay utilities, smartphone usage, cable internet, TV, property tax, sales tax, insurance, ... It is unbelievable living $2 a day. USA, Taiwan and rest of modern countries are "Capitalism", we use "brain" but less "labor" to make money. If China wants to unify Taiwan, they would better to improve their economy.

Incidentally, I heart from CNBC that said on Friday, Jan 15, that next week China will report its 4th quarter GDP growth rate %. China said its economy is slowing down and stock market sharp dropped to hit the "Circuit Breaker" and stop trading. It has been down, down, since day 1 of 2016. The Wall Street people said on CNBC "China can say whatever GDP rate they want, but nobody will believe them". They are all Americans and they don't believe a word what China GDP % at all.

I don't lie and you can check out what I said from internet or TV news. I want China to be good, but they don't know the FACTS. A country can't have so much air pollution, water pollution, traffic jams, poverty, overly built buildings that vacant for years. I know they won't listen to my opinions that can help them, but jumped on me and criticize me.

In USA, we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of press by U.S. Constitution. I know I am honest and truthfully to say what are wrong in China, but some Chinese women jumped on me. Go ahead, you don't know me and you can't do anything about me.

Former U.S. president, Jimmy Carter abandoned Taiwan and built diplomatic relationship with communist China. Taiwan has been kicked out of UN, WHO, .... and many countries in world followed USA and cut off Taiwan. Communist China threatened to weapon occupied Taiwan, so I emigrated to USA.

My aunt family came to USA since I was 4th going to 5th grade summer (I was 10). My mom applied "Green Card" through her younger sister in 1975. After my mom got a job in 1978, she applied (sponsored) me to USA. My immigration visa was granted just in time when Jimmy Carter cut off diplomacy with Taiwan in 1979. That is why I could come to USA in 1980 after quit my pharmacist job in Taiwan. When I landed in US soil in 1980, I immediately got my "Green Card" number at airport by U.S. custom. I have lived in USA longer than in Taiwan.
I am a educated pharmacist, I didn't want to live under the communist threaten to occupy Taiwan.

Communist China and Taiwan has been separated for 65+ years. If they tried to unify Taiwan, they would better be nice and kind instead of threaten to bomb Taiwan. They would better to have democracy as USA and bipartisan and presidential election and so on, .... Be a civilized country. Let the people have FREEDOM and high education. I have good judgement to know which countries are good, which are bad. I love USA and Taiwan.

I am proud to be a Taiwanese-American. I hate communist China, I hate "Cultural Revolution" during 1966 - 1976 for 10 years they killed millions of intelligent professors, teachers, school principals, many rich families, burned down their houses, clobbered them to dead and killed including 28 related relatives from marriage and births. The massacres killed intelligent people and left stupid, rebellious and brutal teenagers. Although it was in the history, but I was already born at that period of time. I am very lucky to be born in Taiwan NOT in China. My ancestors came to Taiwan 400+ years ago instead of 1949 when President Chiang retreated to Taiwan from mainland. Communist China has 65 years history, but they didn't have Presidential election, or bipartisan policy, so Chinese people has no right to vote, to choose their leader or protest voice or freedom of choice. Their government likes to CONTROL people. One party, one policy, one source of news. They kicked out of Google because Google has all impartial news around the world. They only have Baidu and XinHua news which are controlled by their government. People even can't get news from outside world. The built hundreds of "ghost cities", "ghost towns" and "phantom malls", not knowing "supply needs to balance with demand".

Taiwan is a peaceful country. We have democratic presidential elections, our own national flag, our own national anthem. We have bipartisan (even 3rd party) policy, referendum, mayor elections, ...... We can have high education. We don't kill intelligent people, we reward them. We have Google in Taiwan. I was in Taiwan for 32 days in 2011 and used Google to search news too. Taiwan always in the top 1st to 3rd place of semi-conductor (computer chip) in the world. There are so many smartphone and computer companies using Taiwan's chip to manufacture their products. Taiwan's land is limited so we don't overly built.

Ms. Tsai has NEVER been married and highly educated. Tsai earned a LL.B. at National Taiwan University, a LL.M. at Cornell University Law School and a Ph.D. at the London School of Economics.
