50 dead, 53 hospitalized in mass shooting at gay nightclub in Orlando

The country woke up on Sunday to learn of the horrific Orlando nightclub shooting that killed 50 and left 53 injured, making it the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Just like the rest of us, celebs are sickened by the news and took to social media to express their grief and send condolences to the victims and their families affected by the tragedy. The overall message seems to be we need to put an end to the senseless violence.

The ex wife of suspected Orlando gay bar shooter Omar Mateen claims her former spouse beat her during their relationship.

In an interview with the Washington Post in which she remains anonymous, the woman said Mateen was violent and emotionally unstable.

The 29-year-old died Sunday morning after police believe he killed at least 50 people during an early morning assault rifle attack at Pulse nightclub.

“He was not a stable person,” the ex-wife told the Post. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”

The attack is being called the worst ever mass shooting in America's long history of gun violence.

The ex wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear for her personal safety, said she married Mateen about eight years ago after meeting him online.

When they first met, “he seemed like a normal human being,” the woman said.

However, after she said violence became the norm in the home, the woman's family flew to Florida to help her get out of their Fort Pierce home.

The woman said she fled with none of her possessions. She said, in the wake of the attack Sunday, that she feels lucky to be alive.

Very sad situation, the level of hate is beyond belief !!!!! this was purely "SAVAGE", no regard for life. Such ones who have no regard for life, should not be in any part of human society.
It is very obvious to me that Trump used this Orlando shooting event to express his hatred on President Obama by saying "Obama should be fired for not saying "radical Islam" It is a ridiculous hatred language toward President.

President Barack Obama took on Donald Trump Tuesday afternoon, calling the controversy over the use of the term “radical Islam” a “political distraction” and criticizing the Republican presidential nominee’s call to bar Muslims from immigrating to the United States.

Obama, addressing his reluctance to use the “radical Islam phrase,” Obama said, “What exactly would using this label accomplish? What exactly would it change? Would it make terrorists less committed to killing Americans? Would it bring in more Allies?

“The answer is none of the above,” Obama said. “Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. This is a political distraction.”

Obama said America is “not confused about who our enemies are.”

“If there’s anyone out there who thinks we are confused who are enemies are . . . that would come as a surprise to the thousands of terrorists we’ve taken off the battlefield.”

After 49 people were killed in a terror attack early Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Trump ripped Obama and presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for avoiding use of the term “radical Islam.”

Obama also addressed Trump’s call to bar all Muslims from immigrating to the United States.

“Where does this stop? The Orlando killer, one of the San Bernardino killers, the Fort Hood killer, they were all U.S. citizens. Are we going to start treating Muslims who live here differently?

“Do Republican officials actually agree with this? Because that’s not the America we want. It doesn’t reflect our Democratic ideals.”

Obama said such a stance would “make us less safe, fueling hatred toward us.”

It also makes “Muslim-Americans feel like their government has betrayed them.”

[I condemn any violence, killing, massacre, ... I am a peaceful person and keep away from violent people.

I have email discussion with my friends. I saw gay held hand and kissed on the streets in San Francisco and San Diego. I am a heterosexual, so felt "uncomfortable" for a moment, then I just look away. I can tolerate LGBT. To me, they are just like "left hand" people. We, "right hand" people are majority and using right hand to write or eat, but left hand people use left hand. My banker friend has different opinion than me. He can't tolerate LGBT. I watch "Ellen DeGeneres shows" lots of times and like her shows. She is very witty, smart, humorous, ... She is a lesbian and married an Australian girl. They are happy and healthy couple and I like them. There is nothing kinky about them. There is a gay couple on "Britain's got talent" show hosts, they are happy and healthy to me. I can accept them as they are. The most famous "Transgender" person is Bruce Jenner become Caitlyn Jenner. Bruce Jenner was an Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete and have had 3 wives and many of his biological children.

This killer in Orlando, went to gay bar to kill 50 and injure 53 because he saw gay people kissed on street, according to his father. He was born and raised in USA but he was a violent people who hit his ex-wife many times and they were divorced. FBI has interrogated him twice but released him due to no sufficient evident. So that, he could buy a hand gun and an assault weapon couple weeks ago and shooting at the gay nightclub to express his hatred about LGBT.

I condemn those violent action against people. It is about time (took too long) for Congress to pass the law on "Assault weapon Ban" (AW. How many people had to die before we can enforce the AWB??

ORLANDO, Fla. — A gunman who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State killed 50 people and wounded 53 in a crowded gay nightclub here early Sunday. The gunman, identified as Omar Mateen, had been investigated twice by the F.B.I. for possible connections to terrorism, the bureau said, but no ties could be confirmed.

Mr. Mateen, 29, an American citizen whose parents were from Afghanistan, called 911 and talked about the Islamic State shortly before the massacre at the Pulse nightclub, the worst mass shooting in American history, Ronald Hopper, an assistant agent in charge of the F.B.I.’s Tampa Division, said at a news conference. Other federal officials said more explicitly that he had declared allegiance to the group.

“The F.B.I. first became aware of him in 2013 when he made inflammatory comments to co-workers alleging possible terrorist ties,” but could not find any incriminating evidence, Agent Hopper said.

In 2014, the bureau investigated Mr. Mateen again, for possible ties to Moner Mohammad Abusalha, an American who grew up in Florida but went to Syria to fight for an extremist group and detonated a suicide bomb. Agent Hopper said the bureau concluded that the contact between the two men had been minimal, and that Mr. Mateen “did not constitute a substantive threat at that time.”

The suspicions did not prevent Mr. Mateen, who lived in Fort Pierce, Fla., from working as a security guard, or from buying guns. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Mr. Mateen legally bought a long gun and a pistol in the last week or two, though it was not clear whether those were the weapons used in the assault.

Hours after the attack, the Islamic State claimed responsibility in a statement released over an encrypted phone app used by the group. It stated that the attack “was carried out by an Islamic State fighter,” according to a transcript provided by the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks jihadist propaganda.

But officials cautioned that even if Mr. Mateen, who court records show was born in New York and had been married and divorced, had been inspired by the group, there was no indication that it had trained or instructed him, or had any direct connection with him. The pair who killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif., in December also proclaimed allegiance to the Islamic State, but investigators do not believe they had any contact with the group.

“The F.B.I. is appropriately investigating this as an act of terror,” President Obama said from the White House. He said that the gunman clearly had been ”filled with hatred” and that investigators were seeking to determine any ties to overseas terrorist groups.
