Should I Really Join Facebook? (Priceless)

Read it all the way through!
It's a good laugh AND really quite true!!
A good laugh for people in the over 70 group!

When I bought my Blackberry, I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a cell phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven , their spouses, my 13 grand and 2 great grand could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation.

I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Bluetooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive.

I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.

I mean, the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time.
Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then, if I made a right turn instead. Well, it was not a good relationship...

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I lose three phones all at once and have to run around digging under chair cushions, checking bathrooms, and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves, but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?"

every time I check out, just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them with me.

Now I toss it back to them.

When they ask me, "Paper or plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do fart a lot."

P.S. I know some of you are not over 70. I sent it to you to allow you to forward it to those who are. I figured your sense of humor could handle it....

We senior citizens don't need any more gadgets. The TV remote and the garage door remote are about all we can handle.

I use to try to keep up with tech, I am pretty good at working and making software do what It is capable of doing that I need it to do. I've had some experience with server side functions, when I built my first web sites. Then everything began to use 'containers" that are fed from a database, and it sometimes is kind of jerky when some web sites load. The old way, had its issues, because the page size could become huge and load slowly, but then the processor speed increased, which minimized that problems, because one could optimize the page once it was built the old way.
Now, any and everyone sells templates for what ever one wants to set up as to various web sites.
Security is a big issue, my site for the business in 2008 was good for the time, but then I bought programs that had good templates I liked, but it got hacked by someone from China, ( It taught me that every folder needed very good passwords) . I've not had time to update my knowledge but I'm sure I can adapt to some of the templates. I want to update my site, because the server, stopped using front page extension, so a lot of links stopped working.

Have to get back in the mindset to deal with it. But I do want to learn how to create "Apps". I think I will either take a class and invest some time to learn, because I have some interesting ideas for apps. I'm not into the games, I like apps that actual do something useful.

I've built data base I use at work, and they do what I need them to do, I may have them converted to server based functionality. Now, I use MS Access to build them, and they do well. MS keeps changing stuff, and then they make once simple things more complex, which is a pain !!!!

I use to buy all sorts of programs, but then I learned that I can do many things with not so many programs necessary, but there are some specialty program which are good.

I don't do a lot with the phone, and I don't have any downloaded games on it, because I likely would not be playing it. I download apps that give me information. I don't care for banking on my phone, I simply buy Pre-paid CC, which does not cost anything to reload it, that way I don't have to use my bank card at places that may be of question. Besides I can manage what I spend without the debit of the bank card.

I'd like to buy a Multi-Tera Drive and load my movies on it, ( I wonder if there is a program that will log them and display their title and hint information about the movie.
I do think I'd like to have my own "Personal Cloud storage system", I have various flash drives, which I put on a pocket drive, as back up incase I loose the flash.
I still use XP, I have a computer with Windows 7.... I plan to keep my XP, because it works just fine.
I may buy a laptop with Windows 10, but I'm not ready to go to windows 10 for Desktop, besides, I know from experience, it takes a lot of time to keep so many computers updated. "maybe I need my own server"
and link all my computers to it. I'll have to figure out what it the best option to do.

I don't see a need for a watch that does the same thing the phone does, and I've not decided to buy a tablet, because already I don't use the laptop I've had for a while.

Maybe when I re-start my business I will plan out the best way to set it up, and for that, it may be a good idea to have a personal cloud which multiple computers can access or a server which all computers can use the same software.

I would like to have some automated thing in the home, such as automatic controllable windows blinds, some automatic controlled external shutters, and a wireless system for music speaks to avoid running wires, but I'd like multiple TV controller, which could use the speaker system for independent rooms.

I've pondered having tracking chips placed in my dogs.

Computer, internet, and all social media are certainly at high speed technology. I remember I have had a pen-pal in Quebec, Canada studying his master and doctorate degrees at McGill University, I was in Taiwan. The mails took at least 7 - 10 days to Canada and wait for few days he replied and another 7 - 10 days to come back to me.

I have joined FaceBook a year ago (after returned from OZ and NZ) with a fake name in my less use email address, but FaceBook could find my primary email address and cellular phone # to get my email friends' email addresses whoever have account with FaceBook. I stay very low profile to protect my privacy.

I don't have Twitter account, so I don't know nothing about Tweeting.

Couple weeks ago, my son installed Microsoft 10 for me. Every time I have new gadgets, I asked either my daughter or son to install or set-up the gadget (smartphone) for me. I am computer functional illiterate. However, I have near 100 apps. I enjoy YouTube videos, BBC News, CNN News, .... and also make "Mobile" deposit checks to my bank accounts without driving. Wonderful !!

I have benefit a lot knowledge from Google search engine. Thanks Google. I am looking forward to having autonomous car in the short future.
