kayra,

I was in Japan for 5 days in 2011 during Chinese New Year time. It was almost six yrs ago. Yes, I went to Koto and Osaka Japan, in the south. The earthquake was in north and I already returned to USA near a month. You are not a subscriber so you can't see those photos I have in my profile about Taiwan and Japan trip in Jan - Feb 2011.

Taiwan is my birther place. However, I needed to re-do my Taiwanese ID and so on after resided in USA for 31 yrs in 2011. The escrow couldn't close during the six off days for Chinese lunar new year celebration. So, I went to Japan for a short trip instead.

In USA, Christmas is a very important religious holiday, a family get together for dinner on Christmas Eve and exchange their gifts that under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. When I was a little girl in Taiwan, my mom was a Catholic, so she told me to hang a long stocking at bedside on Christmas Eve. The next morning, I found the gifts my mom gave me. My mom was exceptional to the most Taiwanese families that we celebrated Christmas tradition. I also went to the Christmas Eve Mass with her. (However, I am an agnostic for the past decade.)

In China and Taiwan, "Lunar New Year Day" is more important. The holidays are from New Year's Eve to 5 days in New Year Day for total of six days. All the government institutes, banks, escrow company, ... are closed. I was in Taiwan to sell our family residence in January=February of 2011 and stuck with these six days off holidays in Taiwan. No bank opened, so escrow company also closed. I stayed in a hotel in Kaohsiung City and they raised this six days price 3 times more (from $1,500 N.T. to $4,500 N.T. per day). So, I joined a tour to Japan for five days to avoid the hotel "price gouging" during these six days. Japan doesn't celebrate Chinese New Year Day, so the price is the same as regular. I was in Taiwan for 32 days in 2011. When I returned to USA on Feb 16, 2011, Japan had a 8.9 earthquake/tsunami /Nuclear leak on March 11, 2011.
