Euflexxa injection works on my knee pain

A day prior to my birthday trip to Honolulu, Hawaii on August 19, 2016, my left knee had a flare-up, very painful. It was too late to cancel the hotel reservation, airplane round-trip ticket, the airport pick-up and drop-off, the Polynesian Cultural show ticket, .... I got to go. It was so painful. Most of time in that 4 nights/ 5 days trip, I stayed in the hotel room except the day I went to see the Polynesian show and few times to a shopping mall to eat.

When I got back home, I talked to my PCP (Primary Care Physician) and been referred to see my mom's Rheumatologist. That Rheumatologist applied TAR (Treatment Authorization Request) to give me "Methyl Prednisolone" injection on my left knee. The request has been approved. After the first injection, it only helped a little bit. I still have pain especially in the early morning at 4 a.m. it was very painful and woke me up. I couldn't walk to the toilet. So, I have a cane put at my bedside to help me walk to the toilet. The pain gradually subside when it was warmer about 11 a.m. I was limping. I talked to the rheumatologist that Prednisolone inject helped me just a little. The rheumatologist applied to insurance for the same injection for the 2nd time. That 2nd injection of Prednisolone didn't work at all. The pain was still there. I have been told that the insurance company only allow 3 times Prednisolone injections, then the surgery will be performed.

I continued to complain to rheumatologist that my will get married on May 20th and I can't limp on that day. That rheumatologist knows I am a pharmacist and used to take my mom to see him. So, he applied a new drug called "Euflexxa" injection. Finally this Euflexxa got approved by insurance and I got the injection on April 20th for the 1st time and April 27 for the 2nd injection. Wow, it works since the 1st time. I feel much better, the pain relieved much more. Much improved.

The rheumatologist MD gave me Euflexxa brochure. I read it
"The cushioning tissue, or cartilage, in the knee joint slowly wears away",
"The synovial fluid, the thick fluid that helps lubricate the knee joint, becomes thinner and doesn't work as well to protect the joint",
"Over time, knee pain and stiffness may become worse and more frequent",
"When cartilage loss is severe, the bones of your knee may grind together, leading to friction that causes the bone to wear down and, possibly, to more knee pain and stiffness",
"The knee damage and pain from OA (Osteoarthritis) advance at different rates".

As a pharmacist, I know Prednisone, Decadrone, Cortisone are for "inflammation" but not for "cartilage shrinking". But this Euflexxa is working on cartilage and it works on my knees. I am very happy with Euflexxa injection that directly inject into the joint. I still have 3rd injection on May 4th that just in time for me to attend my 's wedding. When the 2nd time to have Euflexxa injection on 4/27/2017, I told the doctor, I feel tremendous well on Euflexxa injection. The rheumatologist is happy for me and shook my hand. When I told the doctor that my wants to be an OB/GYN doctor, he said "Yike, that is a difficult job", "too much responsibilities", he wouldn't like to be OB/GYN.

My mom had RA (rheumatoid arthritis), I have OA (Osteoarthritis) which is a better condition. I just want to share the information about "Euflexxa" injection that works on knee cartilage. If you have friends who got Cortisone injection that didn't work, try Euflexxa, it works very well.

Hi bella,

I hope you understand that I posted blogs to help people with best of my knowledge not to kill people with whatever the rumor said. When a drug companies to introduce a new drug, they have to do a lot of research and do a lot of animal tests, human tests, double blinded tests to compare the placebo and the new drugs, ....

Please trust professional advice. Do NOT believe whoever told you the therapy without any evidence of success rates or FDA approved. You should Google it before you put yourself in danger.

I am a Taiwan licensed pharmacist since 1977 and California licensed pharmacist since 1987. I trust the pharmaceutical companies that have "stage 1", "stage 2", and "stage 3" tests and FDA approved drugs than those unconventional therapies.

People eat "shark fin", "bear's palm", "monkey's brain", .... killed elephant to get Ivory. Those are cruel and ridiculous. They believe whoever their neighbors or relatives therapies that worked and followed what they said. They became the "guinea pig" to test whatever the therapies. They are stupid and ridiculous. I post this Euflexxa injection right on the knee joint to educate people this FDA approved drug which relieved my knee pain as an example. I post the same blog on Senior Friendfinder and a woman's mom got the Synvisc injection and healed in one injection. However, on Chinese FriendFinder there is a guy "blueeyesforyou11" responded that he think "Noni Juice" is the one to heal arthritis. This is ridiculous. He should check Google and read the "Noni Juice - Wikipedia" for the fact. This Noni Juice will kill you with "Acute Hepatitis". Do you want to try???

People don't believe the professional advice from pharmacist, MD, FDA, pharmaceutical companies, .... and believe those non-sense, no knowledge people. Unbelievable !!!!!!!

If this Noni Juice works, we don't need pharmacist, MD who have to have education for pre-pharm, pre-med and post-graduated degrees and passed license exam. I am a very honest person and believe in science.

The only real way to treat arthritis is drinking "noni juice"its a miracle fruit which grows on trees in Hawaii it boosts your immune system amazingly.

Noni Juice - Wikipedia

Research

In 2005, two scientific publications as clinical case reports described incidents of acute hepatitis caused by ingesting noni juice. Research has pointed to anthraquinones found in noni roots, leaves and fruit as potentially toxic to the liver and other organs. These case reports were reviewed in 2006 by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), concluding that no causal link could be established. One government report, however, advises against consumption of noni products if one has a history of liver disorders.

The potential for toxicity caused by noni juices remains under surveillance by EFSA, individual food safety authorities in France, Finland and Ireland, and medical investigators in Germany. One review of toxicity tests and safety issues surrounding noni juice was published, finding that there were no adverse effects from consumption of the juice, but another review indicates that safety concerns about consuming noni products have not been adequately addressed in scientific studies.

The Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) for Non-Prescription Drugs and Dietary Supplements lists only one particular commercial brand of noni juice, with no side-effects mentioned. Consumers of noni juice are advised to carefully check labels for warnings which may say "Not safe for pregnant women" or "Keep out of reach of children."

Noni plants and juice have been promoted by practitioners of alternative medicine as a cure for a number of human maladies including HIV, heart disease and cancer. However, noni products may contain high amounts of potassium, leading to one advisory that people on potassium-restricted diets because of kidney problems should avoid using noni. Also, according to the American Cancer Society "there is no reliable clinical evidence that noni juice is effective in preventing or treating cancer or any other disease in humans".

I would NOT drink any "Noni Juice" based on the Wikipedia report that U.S. FDA warning on Noni Juice that caused people acute hepatitis.

I Googled "Noni Juice" which is a false information. Please read the Noni Juice - Wikipedia. I copy down the article of Noni Juice in Wikipedia.

Noni juice has been promoted as a cure for a number of human diseases. However, there is no evidence to support these claims.

Regulatory warnings and safety testing

In August 2004, the US Food and Drug Administration issued a Warning Letter to Flora, Inc. for violating section 201(g)(1) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) [21 U.S.C. § 321(g)(1)]. Flora made twelve unfounded health claims about the purported benefits of noni juice as a medical product, in effect causing the juice to be evaluated as a drug. Under the Act, this necessitates all safety and clinical trial evidence for the juice providing such effects in humans.

The FDA letter also cited 1) absent scientific evidence for health benefits of the noni phytochemicals scopoletin and damnacanthal, neither of which has been confirmed with biological activity in humans, and 2) lack of scientific foundation for health claims made by two proponents of noni juice, Dr. Isabella Abbot and Dr. Ralph Heinicke.

Two other FDA letters have been issued for the same types of violations.

In the European Union, after safety testing on one particular brand of noni juice (Tahitian Noni), approval was granted in 2002 as a novel food by the European Commission for Health and Consumer Protection Directorate-General.[5] In their report, the European Commission's Scientific Committee made no endorsement of health claims.

bella101,

Please don't believe that "Noni Juice" will treat arthritis. It is a false information and U.S. FDA has warned "Noni Juice".

Synvisc or Euflexxa?

Question

which is the better choice, synvisc or euflexxa? I have OA in both my knees and need to have the injections. My doctor said the choice was mine.

Answer

These are just two of several agents used in OA called viscosupplements which contain hyaluronic acid. The medications you mention are injected directly into the knee joint once a week for 3 weeks. There are others that are five injections, and one that is a single injection. All are for treatment of pain in osteoarthritis in knee in patients who have failed non pharmacologic treatment and simple analgesics. They are so much alike that we would not recommend one over the other. Check with your insurance company, they may have a preferred medication. These injections work for some people but not all. Some people can experience a flare up of joint pain after the injection. If this happens, you should contact your doctor.
