Natural disasters There are natural disasters in the world. 1. Hurricane/ Rain storms/ Flooded - We are having three hurricanes back-to-back in USA recently. Hurricane Havey in Texas for a week and just passed that devastated Texas. Now the Hurricane Irma is Category 5 (or 4) in Florida, will be followed by Hurricane Jose (category 4 or 5). Meteorologist can predict approximately WHEN and WHERE the hurricane will come a week before, so the people can evacuate/ escape from their homes to safe places. 2. Earthquake/ Tsunami - Currently Mexico has a 8.1 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami warning. Earthquake and Tsunami are devastated natural disaster WITHOUT WARNING. You can only know after it happened. No scientist can predict WHEN or WHERE the earthquake will happen. Earthquake occurs when two giant seismic plates underground slide and create seismic waves that make building falling, house crumbling. If the magnitude is higher than 8 or near ocean, it might cause tsunami. On Dec 26, 2004 Indonesia and Sri Lanka had a 8.8 (later revised to 9.2) magnitude earthquake that followed with tsunami wave. On March 11, 2011 Japan had a 8.9 magnitude earthquake followed with tsunami and nuclear reactor leaking. There were at least 17,000 people died that day. 3. Volcano eruption - Fortunately people live far from volcano, so the damage or casualty are very small. 4. Avalanche - The snow in the mountain collapsed suddenly. There are some prevention can reduce or prevent the avalanche by strategically explode the dynamite in certain area. Honesty is the best policy. |

I'm in Miami, Fl., we got rocked by Hurricane Irma. We are exhausted from the clean up, just got internet and tv after 5 days. Some still without power. We got destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in '92, Irma is just a MAJOR inconvenience. I live in California which is earthquake prone area. It is like a ticking bomb. Never know when or where the earthquake will happen. Where is the safe heaven in the world? Honesty is the best policy.

I have thought about the mud slide and sand storm and drought, but I skipped these three disasters because they are in very local area. Sand storm usually in desert (Mid-East) and drought in Africa and may cause famine in Africa. I have never been to any Mid-East countries or Africa. Anyway, Earthquake/ Tsunami are the worst kind of natural disaster as we have seen on TV for the Indonesia on Dec 26, 2004 and North of Japan on March 11, 2011. I was in Japan for 5 days in late January of 2011 in South of Japan. I returned to California on Feb 16, 2011. I was in California LAX preparing to boarding airplane to China in May 2008 when there was a big earthquake in Sichuan, China. The tour guide who picked up tourists at Beijing told me there was an earthquake 15 hours ago and the flight time was exact 15 hours. The captain of the airplane didn't mention the earthquake while we were on the plane. In Asia, we call Hurricane as "Typhoon" instead. Honesty is the best policy.
