What is your favorite app?

I have near 100 apps on my smartphone. My favorite app is YouTube video. I spent at least 1 or 2 hours on U-Tube everyday. My smartphone is Samsung Galaxy S7 which has Lithium battery that can be charged faster. Most smartphones use Google Android system EXCEPT Apple iPhone. Apple uses its own iOS.

I use Google search engine, Google Maps, Google Translate, YouTube video, Gmail, stream movies (only saw two movies),...., etc. everyday. When I text or typing an email on phone keyboard, I only type few characters and there are choices of words appear, so I don't need to worry about my spelling. That's wonderful.

The first U-Tube video made me laugh so much is Quebec, Canada pranks called "Just for Laughs Gags". I shared with many of my friends either by messaging or emailing. They all like them. It became a habit to watch those pranks everyday for many years. Then in 2016 election years, I clicked a "Late night talk show", one after another similar host of late night show came out to my smartphone U-Tube. I realized it is "Cloud" that have memory for what you like and the similarity will show-up. Then "British Got Talent" and "American's Got Talent", and extended to many other episodes. Whenever I had a sad day, I watch those funny "pranks", I laughed and forgot my sorrow and difficulties. I've enjoyed YouTube videos very much for years. Thanks Google.

Smartphone is an epic gadget. You can call/ answer your phone and text message, check/ reply email, take pictures, deposit checks/ transfer fund/ pay payment right on your bank app, use it as GPS, clock, calculator, calendar to schedule/ remind your appointment or pay bills, play stream music, play games, shopping list memo, watch U-Tube videos, ... and many more.

I love science and hi-tech gadget that make life easier, more convenient right on a small gadget. Life is good.

Have you noticed that nowadays people using smartphones during waiting line, at restaurant, at doctor's offices, ... everywhere. I cooked less now, I eat out, and noticed almost everyone lowered their head and using smartphone during ordering or eating. More and more restaurants provide free WiFi for customers. McDonald, Starbucks, Target, ... you name it, they have it. Even if you are on the street, you can use your smartphone to get access of internet. People hook on to smartphone.

I absolutely don't use my banking apps while I am in a public place to prevent leaking my passwords to hackers. I do my banking at my private home. I can mobile deposit checks, check balance, transfer money, pay credit card,.. etc. No need to drive to bank to make a deposit. My property management companies automatically deposit rental payments for me and send me statement through email attachment. I just need to print them out.

I have enjoyed those laughing U-tube video very much. I gave them "thumb up" like it, share with my friends, and subscribed. Life is good. I love the YouTube video the best and they are all free of charge.

As for news app, I prefer CNN, NY Times, and BBC News. Most of time the articles come with short video. I have ordered online to purchase goods from Amazon, so Amazon emails me "Most Read" article on "The Washington Post" to me everyday.

I have a "windows" phone... sadly, read an article that they are preparing the exit the phone business. ( I think its a bad move to do so).. Many people including myself have windows operating systems on computers, they should keep with the windows phone and make it fully connected to desktop/laptop.

I will likely end up with an Android, at some point. I personally think, "Google is too intrusive"... but, I'm sure windows is also a data collector.

"Google these articles" :
Smartphone Apps Quietly Using Phone Microphones And Cameras To Gather Data

Memote - Android Apps on Google Play

Warning over iPhone apps that can silently turn on cameras at any time

Goodbye Windows Phone: What comes next for Microsoft in mobile?

I think we cannot forget that some organization, or entity "owns" the apps, as well as the data it collects. Many feature requested by some apps, is not necessary to give the permission, but the app developers, find ways to make the app "NOT" work, unless they have the permissions.

There needs to be individual "Lock Out's", that one can password protect various features, and in doing so, directs the signal to some "remote static terminal", with some preset scrips.. example: Phone feature for private use only, and that message allows the app to work, without access to the pursued feature. This gives people more control.
Also, on the microphone, there should be a MANUAL slider" that turn off the speaker, with a "hard disconnect"... this prevents any remote silent activation.

The feature should be "built into the phone"... with no means for any access by hackers, bots or any malicious avenues to change or activate various feathers.

Guarantee, this capability exist. Because when the Secret Service set up President Obama's phone, we can be assured, they had means to "lock out" any potential for anyone to activate anything, without his knowledge or his system administrators knowledge.

The ignorance of Greed, drives these people to push "fake privacy notices". At some point, society will have no choice but to "DEMAND" that privacy means privacy !!!!

Some of Apps offer the service, or tracking where ever you have gone, and people need a means to "shut that off". Even "pinging" can be an issue, if someone was purposefully trying to do unauthorized spying on another. There certainly has to be some means to have an algorithm that can encrypt pings, to protect people from prying types.

Beyond the Novelty and Convenience of some of these Apps, I think the next generation of products will have to advance, to protect the privacy of individuals in a real and true manner.

How did our FCC and Other Governance systems ever allow, App Producers to practically demand access to feather that have nothing to do with the actual function their various app's claims to provide.

These companies rely on general public complacency to be elated, unaware, and basically non suspect of the means and methods being used to 'extract data" that is not necessary to provide the services they offer.

I try not to use sites that "demand one to use a "Facebook log in", as many sites now, offer only two options to use their services, and that is "use your Facebook log in, or your google log in.

At least this site, still allow people to create "handles'... (even though they still have the IP address), but some people have VPN ( Virtual Private Networks) to counter that to a degree.

But... this site does not really demand any more information than people are willing to provide.

I was amazed that my daughter uses "voice activate" to change her favorite songs, tell her smartphone (Samsung S7 also) for the address she intended to go for Google Maps, .... while she was driving. My English accent probably will confuse Google voice activate and i don't know how to set-up voice activate.

Talk about voice activate, I saw 4 YouTube videos about "voice activated elevator", "voice activated ATM", two guys on Ellen DeGeneres show, I forwarded to my friends and they all like them. I laughed so much and viewed them repeatedly. I love watching U-Tube.

One more reason I don't use Apple products is Google Android system can add "memory chip" to increase GB storage. For example, my current Samsung S7 is 32GB plus add 64GB memory chip = 96GB. I can store many photos, dropbox, apps, .... Another reason is the cost, iPhone is more expensive.

Correct me, if I am wrong.

I do have Apple products such as original 4GB iPod (in 2004), 8 GB iPod Nano, and 32GB iPod Touch for my music. I have purchased 800+ songs ($1.29+ per song) and from my CD to iPod. I have 3,000 songs in iPod. To purchase songs from iTune store cost more money than iPod itself. I've never own an iPhone, iPad or Apple laptop.

I get used to Google Android system.
