My favorite Duomo di Spoleto on Oct 26, 2018 On Oct 26 morning we went to Spoleto, a walled hill-town framed by the towering Apennine Mountains. After we got off the bus, the trip leader said "we need to climb up to the mountains for at least 1 mile high to see a duomo". Please refer to photo 1 of my facial expression, I said "Oh No, I can't walk 1 mile high. I have painful left knee." The trip leader said "you have to walk because the bus can't park here or climb up to the mountain". I was very upset. To my surprise, he was joking about climb up 1 mile. Thanks for Italian most modern technology of 7 very long escalators continuously take us to the top of the mountain. When going down, there are two elevators and 3 people movers (same as airport moving walkways). Marvelous!!! We just standing on machine and it took us up and down. Duomo di Spoleto (Spoleto cathedral) (Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral in Spoleto) was built in 12th century after the city had been devastated by Frederick Barbarossa's troops, over an area where there had previously stood an earlier cathedral, dedicated to Saint Primianus (San Primiano) and destroyed by the emperor. A notable external porch and the belfry were added in the 15th and 16th century respectively.           Honesty is the best policy. |

I have more pictures for this Duomo di Spoleto (Spoleto cathedral) (Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral in Spoleto) and a 774-foot-long medieval bridge. I don't want to post too many pictures. Please Google "Duomo di Spoleto" and find out yourself. In the ancient years, 13 - 16 centuries, the Pope were very powerful persons. They could make people to build the buildings, duomos, bridge, .... for their behalf or safety. The local tour guide said there is a secret path from duomo to the bridge under ground of duomo just in case enemy attack that area. The Pope was like "King". It locates at top, so they can see enemy approaching. At that time, no escalators, no elevator, no moving walkways, .... all those modern technology for tourists to visit there. If you want to travel to this place individually, remember to use those convenience ways to go up there. It was a big surprise to me that turn my sad face to be happy face. Honesty is the best policy.

I really appreciate the 7 long escalators to take us to the top of mountain and 2 elevators and 3 moving walkways to bring us down. The trip leader was just joking me that we had to climb up 1 mile to the top to see the duomo. The view is spectacular and there is a 774-foot-long medieval bridge that runs over a scenic wooded gorge. I adore the Italian architectural work on thousands of churches, cathedrals, duomos, basilicas, ... They also decorate the inside of every church from the ceiling, to the altar, to the both sides of wall, full of oil paintings, sculptures, even the floor .... I am amazed by those artworks and talent for religion. I was born and raised as a Catholic due to my mom's belief. However, I am an atheist now. There are too many things in Bible I can't agree with. Roman crucified Jesus Christ but after 350 years A.D., Roman accepted Christians and became the most religious Catholic in the world. There are so many controversial arguments that I can't agree with Catholic dogmas, .... I don't see any miracle that God do for us, i.e. the natural disasters, earthquake, hurricanes, floods, ... too many murder cases that victims died, I don't see heaven exist or only heaven and hell to go after death. So many things I don't believe, so I became an atheist. However, I admire Italians' talent in artworks including music "opera". Honesty is the best policy.
