Rome, Italy on Oct 29, 2018

Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Ancient ruins such as the Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, has St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes.

Photo 2: Famous actress, Gina Lollobrigida's private home (villa) in Rome. She is age at 91.

Photo 3: I drank water from the water spout that Roman soldiers used to drink on Appian Way to Rome.

Photo 4: Catacombs of St. Sebastiano - Need to pay for entry ticket. Not allow to take pictures of underground tombs. It is spooky, I didn't want to be in underground tombs. But when we walked up to the 1st floor of the church, it has many beautiful oil paintings and sculptures.

Photo 5: Mother Teresa - She was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary.

Photo 6: Pope Saint John Paul II - papacy from Oct 16, 1978 to April 2, 2005.

I was in Rome for six days at a hotel in the center of Rome, walking distance from Coliseum and roman Forum. O.A.T. is very good in choosing the location of hotels. It were raining all six days while I was in Rome. I had 4 days with O.A.T. group #2 and two days by myself in the same Rome hotel. I paid extra for 2 more nights. The weather in Rome was very cooperate. It raining very hard even hailing when we are indoor in hotel or eating breakfast. The thunder, lighting, hailing worried us but when we walked out the hotel, it stopped raining or decreased to drizzling.

My white walking shoe bottom fell off this first day in Rome, I had to immediately bought a blue color soft leather shoe. Although the shoe size a little too tight for me but the shoe shop only had that size at the time, I had to buy or walk bare foot. With ten group #2 people surrounding me, I bought a blue shoe for 50 EURO (50% discount from original price). You will see the blue shoe from Rome day 2 on. I said this story to remind you it's very important to wear comfortable but strong shoe in Italy because cobblestone roads are very hard for human being.

Rome is an exciting city.

Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr. According to traditional belief, he was killed during the Roman emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. He is commonly depicted in art and literature tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows.

According to the trip leader #2, all the houses in Rome are very expensive. Those houses owned by generations since ancient time. If you want to paint your house outside or add an extension to the house, you need to apply for approval by Roman city government. It takes long time, you may get approval but most of time you will be denied exterior remodeling.

The movie actress, Gina Lollobrigida who is 91 now still alive. She was famous as the same time Sophia Loren age 84, still alive.

Before walked out the church, there are Mother Teresa and Pope St. John Paul II oil paintings.

I really admire Italians' art talent.
