Neil Armstrong - The first man on the Moon on July 20, 1969

On July 20, 1969 Apollo landed on the Moon. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the Moon and he said that famous quote "One Small Step For Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind". It is 50 years anniversary today.

I was a lived in Taiwan, I watched the TV in Taiwan and shouted to my grandpa (my mom's father who lived with us) " , grandpa , this is the historic moment that man landed on the Moon". "That American astronaut stepped on the Moon." My grandpa said "it is a TV program, don't believe it". "How can man go to the Moon?" "How's that possible?". I was so excited but my grandpa just glanced the TV for a while and told me it was a fake news. He didn't believe it. Neil Armstrong became a hero in the world. One restaurant owner in Taiwan changed his restaurant name to be 阿姆斯壯 "Armstrong".

My PhD physicist friend has sent me many links about this Apollo landed on the Moon lately. He is very enthusiastic about NASA. He always sent many links or news regarding NASA went to the Mars too.

When Neil Armstrong died Aug. 25, 2012, at a Cincinnati hospital, his family simply attributed the cause to complications from coronary bypass surgery. A month later, the first man to walk on the moon was buried at sea with military honors and the thanks of a grateful nation.

Armstrong’s family has never talked publicly about the astronaut’s last days in Mercy Health Fairfield Hospital, largely to stay in harmony with how he lived. The modest, humble man from Wapakoneta, Ohio, shied from the spotlight in the decades after his flight aboard Apollo 11 and his July 1969 walk on the lunar surface.

But this week, The Cincinnati Enquirer learned that for two years after Armstrong’s death, his two sons threatened a wrongful-death suit against Mercy Health, the largest hospital system in Ohio. They accused the Fairfield hospital of causing a heart complication and triggering a series of grave medical errors.

The Armstrong sons, Rick and Mark, hired a heart specialist at the University of Pennsylvania to review the medical record of more than 5,000 pages. The doctor concluded that not only were the hospital mistakes fatal, Armstrong most likely didn’t need the bypass surgery then.

“While Neil indeed had significant coronary disease, THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY here,” Dr. Joseph Bavaria wrote in a July 1, 2014, letter with capital letters for emphasis. “Neil’s death could have been avoided had the proper standard of care been provided.”

In the weeks after, Mercy Health officials worried that the Armstrong sons would talk about their father’s treatment at Fairfield, according to documents. Ultimately, in an agreement filed with Hamilton County Probate Court in September 2014, the hospital system said it did nothing wrong but agreed to pay the Armstrong family $6 million.

In return, the family agreed to be silent about the last days of the first man on the moon.

I was lucky to be born in Taiwan, otherwise, there was "Cultural Revolution" from 1966 to 1976 for a decade. The "Iron Curtain" was down and they didn't know the giant event of U.S. astronaut, Neil Armstrong, landed the Apollo 11 on the Moon.

I remember that when I was in teenager, the whole world fashion was "mini skirt". I wore "mini skirt" and my grandpa called me to his front and said "if you can't afford to buy skirt long enough, I can give you some money." I told him it was the "fashion" to wear "mini-skirt". I have had a happy and healthy childhood and teenage, so my personality is normal and happy during those years. I think Chinese government should apologize to Chinese people for those years in "Cultural Revolution" massacre they had done. In communist system, people were "silent lambs" followed whatever their government wanted them to do - massacre. The poor people (proletarian) k*llled the rich and intelligent professors, teachers, even their own parents, ... How can Chinese government control those ignorant people to this extent? Hong Kong people and Taiwanese are luckier to escape the "Cultural Revolution" massacre and ignorant government. I am on Chinese people side, if you understand what I am saying. I want a peaceful and progressive country.

Where were you when Neil Armstrong landed Apollo 11 on the Moon? Did you watch the TV for that historic moment? You needed to be at least 50 years old.
