Situation Room: 2 photos capture vastly different presidents

Two high-risk raids. Two dramatic moments in the White House.

Photos taken in the White House Situation Room during the killings of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Saturday and of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden 8 years earlier capture the vastly different styles of two American presidents.

The White House on Sunday released a photo of President Donald Trump with five of his senior national security advisers monitoring the Saturday night operation against al-Baghdadi in Syria.

The photo shows the six men, all in dark suits or military uniform, posing for the camera and staring straight forward with stern expressions as they sit around a table. The presidential seal gleams on the wall over Trump's head.

The photo invites comparisons to the Situation Room photo released by President Barack Obama's White House following the May 2011 operation in which Navy Seals killed bin Laden.

In this unposed scene, 13 faces are fully or partially visible in the crowded tableau.

Obama, wearing a polo shirt and light coat, is hunched forward and perched on a folding chair slightly off center. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the most expressive face in the group, holds her hand over her mouth as Defense Secretary Robert Gates sits next to her, his arms tightly crossed.

The Trump photo, with the president in the center and looking severe, is more formal and captures the current president's interest in conveying the power and grandeur of his office. It also reflects the tight circle of advisers from whom he solicits advice.

To his right are national security adviser Robert O'Brien, Vice President Mike Pence and Defense Secretary Mark Esper. To his left are Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Brig. Gen. Marcus Evans, the Pentagon's deputy director for special operations and counterterrorism.

The jumble of ethernet cables, legal pads and computers covering the boardroom table stands in sharp contrast to the formality of the moment.

Compare the two photos below.

In Trump's situation room, all six people are males, all of them white, all of them dressed up neatly or in uniforms. It looks like a "show business" and Americans are the audience.

Obama gets along with his cabinet personnel. He rarely fired any employee.

Different people read a same article have different opinions. To me, Trump is a flamboyant person, that was why he sat at the center among his advisors. Trump was showing off his power. However, Obama is a humble person, he sat in front a TV watching the SEAL team raid the building where bin-Ladin was hiding. Obama was very concentrate on the raid developing real time. Obama cared about SEAL operation would be safe and successful.

Trump described ISIS leader al-Baghdadi "whimpering and crying and screaming all the way” to the back of a tunnel in his compound, where he detonated a suicide vest as he was surrounded by three of his children. Trump claimed that al-Baghdadi “died like a dog” died in a vicious and violent way, as a coward, running and crying. I am glad al-Baghdadi died in the result of a raid, but what Trump said might provoke the ISIS followers. It is unnecessary to say those words. Trump was not on the spot, he said is not necessary. USA is the leader of the world, we have the strongest military force, we are civilized people, we don't need to say those words.

On the other hand, Obama has described how dangerous of SEAL team operation was. The helicopter was down during the raid in the dark and unknown the raid would be successful. Obama said the SEAL team took bin-Ladin's DNA test to identify that was real him, took photos and wrapped up the body before dumped into the ocean. That was Obama's order, he was responsible to have the raid succeeded. Obama didn't say any word like "died as a dog".....

Yes, bin-Ladin and al-Baghdadi were deserve to die, I agreed totally. However, two U.S. presidents handled differently. Obama didn't use unnecessary words to humiliate the enemies. That is the difference.

Obama is a humble person and I am a big fan of Obama. Nobody pushed Obama to the side, the TV was in front of him that he could see much better from that angle. I think that the SEAL team helicopter crashed down when it hit the fence during the dark and unfamiliar place where bin-Ladin hid inside that building. Anyway, SEAL team did their job successfully at the end.

I have voted Obama twice and think he is the president who loves USA people. I can't tolerate Trump said "Grab them with pu**y", "Shot anyone at 5th Avenue and won't lose a vote", reduced tax bracket from 35% to 21% for the rich people that made 1/4 million dollars annually. (do you make 1/4 million or more to benefit for the lower tax bracket?) Trump has fired so many personnel in his cabinet for past less than 3 years, if those people had different opinions with him. There are so many vacant jobs in his cabinet and he replaced and then fired them within a short period of time.

Obviously, you and I have very different views of two different presidents. I am a believer of "Green Environment", "Global worming" and "Climate Change", ... I want my president respect women not mocking women, minorities, ... There are 50% of the voters are WOMEN. MONEY is not everything, but personality is.

They are absolutely two different style's U.S. presidents. This is the "Democracy", people voted for two different kinds of presidents.

Unlike Communists, we have different choices, we are NOT silent lambs. We let the election speak out who would be in White House. Communists are chauvinists, they don't have presidential election and put the most notorious massacre monster, Mao's photo on the Renminbi 人民幣 money. They only have one party that is CCP (Chinese Communist Party).
