USA will donate 750,000 vaccine doses to Taiwan

The United States will donate 750,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan as part of the country’s plan to share shots globally, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth said on Sunday, offering a much-needed boost to the island’s fight against the pandemic.

Taiwan is dealing with a spike in domestic cases but has been affected like many places by global vaccines shortages. Only around 3% of its 23.5 million people have been vaccinated, with most getting only the first shot of two needed.

Speaking at Taipei’s downtown Songshan airport after arriving on a three-hour visit with fellow Senators Dan Sullivan and Christopher Coons, Duckworth said Taiwan would be getting 750,000 doses as part of the first tranche of U.S. donations.

China has offered to sell Taiwan Chinese-made vaccines, but the government in Taipei has repeatedly expressed concern about their safety, and in any case cannot import them without changing Taiwanese law, which bans their import.

I have to correct my mistake of previous comment. The 2nd shipment of Moderna vaccines has arrived in Taiwan on June 20th and the quantity is 2.5 million Moderna vaccines instead of 250,000 I mentioned. 2.5 million is 10 times more. The 1st shipment was 750,000 doses + 2,500,000 doses = 3,250,000 (3.25 million) doses.

In 2020, Taiwan had donated 30 million facial masks to USA when USA was in danger of Coronavirus pandemic. This year Taiwan has serious pandemic (possibly mutational virus) since May 2021. USA has helped Taiwan to donate 3.25 million of Moderna vaccines.

Thank you for your friendship, America.

U.S. 2nd shipment of 250,000 Moderna vaccines has arrived Taiwan to alleviate some urgency of vaccine supplies. Taiwan is very grateful for Japan and USA friendship.

President of Taiwan, Tsai Ying-Wen, has publicly announced her thanks, said "A friend in need is a friend indeed" to Japan and USA.

I am a Taiwanese-American. I have two passports and loyal to both countries. I have resided in USA since 1980 (41+ yrs).

U.S. has sent Moderna 750,000 does of vaccines to Taiwan as promised and arrived safely. U.S. will send another shipment of Moderna vaccines in the near future.

Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are made from mRNA and needed to store at subzero temperature. I already had my two doses of Pfizer vaccines since late January and early February of this year. Many restaurants have opened for indoor dinning in California.
