Xi personality cult狂熱崇拜 is a danger to China

The original writer of this article is Mr. Gideon Rachman, a British journalist.

Chinese as y*ung as * will soon be required take lessons in Xi Jinping 习近平thought. Before they reach their teenage years, pupils will be expected learn stories about the Chinese leader’s life and to understand that “Grandpa Xi Jinping 习近平has always cared for us.

This should be an alarm bell for modern China. The state-led veneration of Xi has echoes of the personality cult 狂熱崇拜around Mao Zedong 毛泽东— and with it, of the famines and terror unleashed by Mao during the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. From Stalin’s Russia to Ceausescu’s Romania to Kim’s North Korea and Castro’s Cuba, the combination of a personality cult and Communist Party rule is usually a recipe for poverty and brutality.

These comparisons may seem far-fetched, given the wealth and sophistication of modern China. The country’s economic transformation in recent decades has been remarkable — leading Beijing to promote a “China model” from which the world can learn.

But it is important to make a distinction between the “China model” and the “Xi model”. The China model of reform and opening, put in place by Deng Xiaoping, was based on a rejection of the cult of personality. Deng urged officials to “seek truth from facts”. Policy should be guided by a pragmatic observation of what works, rather than the grandiose statements of Chairman Mao.

To allow officials to experiment with new economic policies, it was crucial to break with the fear and dogma associated with an all-powerful leader. Term limits for the Chinese presidency were introduced in 1982, restricting any leader to two five-year terms. In the post-Deng years, China has managed two orderly leadership transitions — from Jiang Zemin江泽民 to Hu Jintao胡锦涛, and from Hu to Xi in 20.

Term limits were also intended to solve the succession problem that often plagues one-party states. Henceforth, the party’s collective leadership would matter more than the charismatic leadership of a single man.

But, in the Xi era, the Chinese Communist party has once again embraced a personality cult. It incorporated Xi Jinping thought into its constitution at a congress in 20. This was an honour previously granted to one other leader, while still in power — Mao. In 2018, the Deng-era term limits for the Chinese presidency were abolished — setting the stage for Xi to rule for decades, if not for life.

The current intensification of the Xi cult, looks like preparation for next year’s party congress — at which the Chinese leader’s desire to stay on in power indefinitely, will have to be rubber-stamped by the party he controls.

Xi is almost certain to get his way. His supporters and organized sycophants will hail the move. How could they not? The Chinese leader is meant to be a “good emperor” — a wise leader, is making all the right moves modernize the country.

is certainly possible make a case for Xi’s signature policies — such as a crackdown on corruption and a more assertive foreign policy. The current campaigns reduce inequality, and control the power of the big technology companies, can also be justified.

But all of these policies could also easily go wrong. Intimidating Taiwan could lead a needless confrontation with the US. Cracking down on big tech could frighten entrepreneurs and hobble the private sector.

The real difficulty is that if things do go wrong, it will be very hard for anybody to say so openly. All personality cults are based on the idea that the great leader is wiser than everyone surrounds him. He cannot be acknowledged have made mistakes. Chinese critics of Xi’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic have been sent prison. will be no public inquiries or parliamentary hearings into the pandemic in Xi’s China.

The Xi cult is also intrinsically humiliating for China’s educated middle- and senior officials — have study Xi thought daily on a special app. They are expected express reverence for the leader’s musings and parrot his favorite phrases, such as “green mountains and clear water are equal mountains of gold and silver”. Anybody finds this ritual objectionable or laughable, would be wise keep their thoughts themselves. The Xi cult means that insincerity and fear are now baked into the Chinese system.

Extending Xi’s leadership long into the future is also a recipe for a future succession crisis. The Chinese leader is 68 years old. At some point, he will no longer be fit to govern. But how will he be removed?

Xi’s creation of a cult of personality and his moves to become, in effect, “ruler for life” are part of a disturbing global pattern. In Russia, Vladimir Putin is also pushing through constitutional changes that will allow him to remain as president well into his eighties. Donald Trump used to “joke” enviously that the US should emulate China’s abolition of presidential term limits.

But the US has checks and balances 制衡, which have so far managed to thwart Trump’s worst instincts. In a country such as China — without independent courts, elections or a free media — are no real constraints on a leadership cult. That is why Xi is now a danger his own country.

I am not trying to demonize CCP, I am stating the true facts. CCP has prohibited Chinese people to talk about the Great Famine, Cultural Revolution, Tienanmen Square massacre, organ harvesting on Falun Gong practitioners, Hong Kong suppression, Xijiang concentration camps, slave non-wage labors, forced Mongolians to learn Chinese and forbid to learn Mongolian language, sabre-ratting Taiwan with 24 fighting jets daily.

CCP thought if they don't allow people to say those dirty history and current violations, against "Human Rights", forced the world to accept what they have done, the world has accurate "Value" than CCP. Look the Chinese citizens became "silent lambs" and 井底蛙 because they have FEAR that CCP will arrest them or their parents and relatives, to threaten them, beat them, put them in jails and strangely death or forced suicide. The world still know such violent acts. My ancestors had been in Taiwan for 400+ years and I don't have grand-parents, or parents, or siblings, in China, I am NOT afraid CCP because I am NOT a Chinese citizen. That's the reason that I don't want to be a Chinese and shame to be one.

I know Chinese people are NOT CCP, but CCP propaganda have been repeated so many times to their brains, they became convinced. So sad, they have no freedom to speak or criticize CCP.

I have posted many of 72 years CCP historical photos in my blogs to show Chinese FriendFinder bloggers to read and see. I am on Chinese people side to speak for them, sympathize them for they can't help themselves. How can USA, EU, Australia, world leaders still want to do trades with CCP? Don't they know deal with CCP are wrong doing? Don't they know the simple principal as human being should know that k*lling is wrong? Not mention k*lled more than 80 million people in 72 years. Those people died in vain, they don't have name, no tomb, no coffin, no graveyard, no burial site. How can Government k*ll their own people??? In Democracy system, the president or prime ministers have been elected and they have to LOVE people to gain their vote. In China, there are no election, so the leaders could do whatever dictators do.

To connieisreal:

Yesterday I received an email on AFF, you used a guy's Chinese FriendFinder account who is a Gold Member, living in Taiwan to write in Simplified Chinese characters (in contrast to Taiwanese using Traditional Chinese characters). I don't know what is your relationship with that guy who is willing to let you used his Chinese FriendFinder account to contact me. If he let you used his account, you must can read my entire profile and previous blogs.

You said you are not a subscriber and only can read my blog and write comment. I sympathize your situation in China that not permit you to read Chinese FriendFinder and outside news which CCP blocked in China. You might be arrested and put in jail by using VPN. Someone might report you and you will be fired. You said you saw I wrote some Chinese, so you thought I am a Chinese. No, I don't want to be a Chinese. I am proud to be a Taiwanese-American who has dual passports and travel freely and freedom of speech, religion and press. I have been in USA for the past 41 years, all my computers, smartphones are purchased in USA and the keyboard don't have Chinese typing. Those Chinese characters in my blogs that I search from Google and internet dictionary and copied and pasted on my blogs. I can't type in Chinese on my Desktop or Laptop.

CCP is a cruel group of leaderships in China that controlled all the people in China. For the recent years, CCP used "Wolf Worrier Diplomacy" and "saber-rattling 武力恫嚇" Taiwan. How is possible that I want to be a Chinese? It is out of question.

You said in email that to respond my blogs that may expose yourself in the public and someone may report you to CCP, so you emailed me through the guy's account. However, i blocked the email because I don't know what your relationship with that guy. It is too complicated.

I have to correct your mistake. I am NOT a Chinese. I am a Taiwanese-American. My ancestors had been on Taiwan for over 400 years, through Dutch and Japanese, but NEVER, NEVER under CCP. We have NEVER gone through Great Famine, Cultural Revolution, Tienanmen Square Massacre, Falun Gong organ harvesting, ... etc. I was born and raised in Taiwan till 1980. I was Taiwan's and California licensed pharmacist for most of my life.

I am surprised that your English is good comparing to most of Chinese. I have traveled to 17 countries, 12 U.S. national parks, 17 states in USA, .... I am a patriot to USA and Taiwan. I have freedom of speech, religion and press as U.S. Constitution gave every American the rights. According to your English capability, you must be educated. I have been to China for 6 days and nights (2 days on airplanes) with a travel agency. I have been in Beijing for 2 nights, Han-Zhu for 1 night, Su-Zhu for 1 night and Shanghai for 2 nights in May 2008 (3 months before Summer Olympics in Aug 200. Yes, I visited "Forbidden City" AKA Tienanmen Square, stepped on "Great Wall".

You probably NOT a subscriber on Chinese FriendFinder so that you can't read my profile and my 92 photos. You can view my blogs, if you are interested to 720+ blogs. I am on Chinese FriendFinder to post my thoughts on blogs, not dating anyone as I already found a banker CEO/Chairman for 15 years and 3 months. He taught me how to invest in USA including real estate and stock market. I brought $3,000 USD (Taiwanese government allowed maximum amount) in 1980 to USA and now I have 2 million in real estate and 2 million in stocks. I am very lucky to know a banker CEO/Chairman from Yahoo Personals site which had been closed for years.

Of course, I can identify scammers and U.S. Green Card. I have blocked hundreds of members. Don't worry, I am a smart cat, I am NOT easy be fooled.

I am glad that you use VPN to avoid CCP's firewall and can read other news besides of Chinese government. I am grateful you communicate with me. I am 20+ years older than you.

Please don't say I am a Chinese because I can speak, read, write Mandarin Chinese. There are many countries speak same language but different countries. For example: South Korea vs North Korea, South Vietnam vs North Vietnam, West Germany vs East Germany, American vs British. They all speak same language but separated by different political ideas. You know, Americans were from England 245 years ago. British soldiers came to U.S. continental and battled with Americans. But Americans declared "Independence" to become another country as USA. Americans occupied a big land, but Taiwan is a small island. However, Taiwanese are very similar to Jewish in Israel. Small land but people are smart and know how to make fortune. Same language don't mean same country.

My ancestors had NEVER under Mao to Xi controlled. Hong Kong was under British government for 99 years and have had English education. However, China violated the laws they signed with British and forced Hong Kong to become Chinese in recent 2 years. What a shame.

Thanks for communicate with me.

I am sorry that you are still in Wuhan, China. I appreciate your comments to let the world people know the real life in China. I understand you can't say too much to protect your family's lives.

I am talking about CCP, not Chinese people. I hope you haven't been brainwashed by CCP. You know the Human Rights. CCP took away rich people's fortune to CCP not to the Chinese people.

I admire your courage to reply my blog through VPN. Please stay safe and stay alive.

China has gone through much to dissolve its historical dynasties, and it will not return to become one that Xi is trying to create. He has exalted himself into the space where his downfall is a guarantee, because no man is greater than the sum of the population of people.

Well said, beyondfantasy3. I appreciate your comment.

Huge population of Chinese people have been brainwashed, generation after generation. The emperor system that made them to obey one ruler for life. They don't have g*n, or we*pon to defend themselves against this ancient system. They are deplorable Chinese people. Xi thinks he can become the world emperor. Xi against all the Democracy nations, i.e. USA, EU, and majority of nations except Iran, Russia, North Korea and Taliban and maybe few African nations.

Totalitarian will be and should be failed.

Xi has confiscated the fortune from rich and famous Alibaba 阿里巴巴集团 and Tencents 腾讯控股有限公司 and many others to CCP. Then, to rich and famous movie stars, singers, TV and models. George Soros said Xi's dictatorship threatens the Chinese state. Soros said "In Xi's quest for personal power, Xi has rejected Deng Xiaoping’s邓小平 economic reform path and turned the CCCP into an assemblage of yes-men". The next large company is the real estate mogul 中國恒大風暴 that might take down the Chinese economy. George Soros and Japanese SoftBank CEO, Masayoshi Son are the big losers in Chinese stocks investments. I don't invest any Chinese stock since China kicked Google out of China. None of the Chinese stocks in my watch list, so the ups and downs of the Chinese stocks are none of my business.

I have found out that many bloggers on Chinese FriendFinder don't know the important news in the world. So, I posted this Gideon Rachman article to let you know about the Xi cult is a danger in China. It is a typical "Brainwashed Education" to Chinese young children/ students. Those young Chinese kids won't have independent thoughts of their own.

Xi also ordered no need to have English tests in semi-final and final exams, limited to a few of translators 翻譯員 or interpreters口譯員. English is an important international language. Some of the English words are difficult to understand the original meaning when translate to another language. Such as idioms成語, slang俚語, and phrases in English have different meanings, one can't just translate directly by word for word. For example: "checks and balances" is a phrase that means 制衡. If you don't learn English, you don't know the outside world. You will be lockdown in China and know only limited knowledge.
