What do men and women really think about dating?

Shine and man mag Maxim got together for a joint survey of more than 2,000 people to figure out what men and women are thinking when it comes to dating. Among the surprises: Women surveyed prefer dates where there is an activity to focus on (going bowling, for example), while men were the ones who wanted to go out for dinner and drinks—and were the ones more interested in pursuing serious, long-term relationships.

Dating is more complicated than ever

Not only do you have to pay attention to how you look and act while on the date, how you present yourself online can affect your love life as well. A quarter of respondents said that they use social media to facilitate dating—and 40 percent admitted that they judge you by what's on your profile. Forty-one percent make the first move by "friending" the person they're interested in, but 70 percent of daters would rather meet someone in person than online.

An old-fashioned phone call is still the favorite

Facebook is fine, but the vast majority of people (75 percent) prefer a post-date follow-up by phone—and 85 percent of daters want to hear from you in some way within three days of the date. (Does a text count as a phone message? To younger daters, maybe. But if you're older than 35, say your words out loud, please.)

Personality was the most important criteria for daters (84 percent), beating out brains (69 percent), shared interests or hobbies (65 percent), and looks (60 percent).

Even in this post-feminist age, men spend about twice as much on dates as women do—about $80 per date compared to $40— with more women being willing to split the bill after the third date

Women said they prefer dates involving an activity, including bowling, going to the movies, or taking a walk together, while men leaned towards dinner and drinks, especially in the early stages of a relationship.

Maybe the ladies were skewing the results in the hope of impressing the guys but, according to the survey, 39 percent of women said that it's a turn-on when guys list "video games" as a personal interest. We can see that in the early stages of a relationship, perhaps, but at some point World of Warcraft has got to take a back seat to, well, everything else, right?

Does this article imply that the more a man treats her as a novelty, and provide her entertainment, the happier she is ????

I do prefer to go do something more than to go sit and eat some place. so these women who like that, suit me just fine. I much prefer 'interactive women" than those who want to be just looked at across a dinner table
