myths about the brain.....

Here’s a look at five common myths about the brain.
By Lisa Collier Cool

Myth # 1: We only use 10 percent of our brain.

Truth: Brain imaging studies using PET scans and functional MRI show that any mentally complex activity uses many areas of the brain, and over a day, just about all of the brain gets a workout. More proof that the entire brain is crucial for daily life is the devastating impact of damage to even a small area of the brain. However, we do have some brain reserves. An autopsy study found that seniors who stay mentally active—through activities like reading the paper, going to the theater, or playing chess—are less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease—even if they have the characteristic physical brain changes typical of dementia, suggesting that mental function has a “use it or lose it” component. That allows people who keep their brain stimulated to develop more brain reserves, allowing them to continue functioning normally even as their brains are being damaged by Alzheimer’s.
Myth #2: People are right-brained or left-brained.

You’ve probably heard that left-brained people are logical and good at solving problems, while right-brained people are imaginative and artsy. This myth began in the 1800s, where doctors discovered that injury to one side of the brain frequently caused loss of specific abilities. Brain scan experiments, however, show that the two halves of the brain are much more intricately linked than was originally thought, so problem-solving or creative tasks fire up activity in regions of both hemispheres of the brain, not just half. It is true that the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa, so a right-brain injury can cause disability on the left side of the body.

Myth #3: Your brain is gray.

You’ve probably seen preserved brains on TV or in a science classroom that look gray or yellowish white. Although the living brain is sometimes described as “gray matter,” it also contains “white matter” (nerve cells that link the gray matter), red areas (due to many blood vessels that feed the brain), and a black area colored by neuromelanin, a form of the pigment also found in skin and hair. Preserved brains turn solid gray because they’re soaked in chemicals like formaldehyde.
Myth #4: “Flashbulb memories” are like photocopies of events.

We all have vivid memories of dramatic events, such as being in a car accident or what we were doing when the Twin Towers fell. But while these recollections may feel extremely precise, studies show that they can be surprisingly inaccurate because our mind can play tricks on us, Smithsonian Magazine reports. For example, one study found that 73 percent of college students “remember” watching TV coverage of the first plane hitting the north tower on 9/11. In reality, the south tower was hit first.
Myth #5: Our brains are less sharp after 40.

Actually, mental agility starts to slip when we’re in our late 20s, according to a study published in Neurobiology of Aging. When the researchers tested 2,000 healthy adults, they found that brain speed and reasoning skills (as measured by tests that involve solving puzzles, recalling words and story details, and spotting patterns) peak at age 22, then slowly decline, starting at age 27. However, some mental skills improve with age. Older people have larger vocabularies, are better judges of character, and score higher on tests of social skills, such as how to resolve a dispute. They also out-perform the young on remembering images and phrases that evoke positive emotions, which may explain why surveys show that, on average, older people are happier.

None of these people know the true capability of the Brain, they can pick and choose points of discussion, but the power of the brain is beyond the ability of man to comprehend, Man is still trying to learn how to understand the various chemical that make up the body and how they work. people make these declarative statement, and then push that stuff, when the nature of the human body is a marvel that never ceases to marvel the lives of human beings. God's design of man is far more than many has yet come close to understanding, If they could they probably could bring dead people back to life and make them fully functional, or they could reverse the effects of Alzheimer or explain why various savants have such extraordinary skills which people can study a life time and not teach others how to tap into that level of focal observations.
We may have hindered mankind by trying to establish too many "norms' and then send people to be script trained in ways that does not allow the mid to expand beyond what a few theorist claim is the containment perspective learning must adhere.

What have we seen destroy the global system, is script trained processes in the claimed educated, who have found ways to destroy many system, while at the same time make improvements, only to allow the emotional spectrum of greed wreak havoc on the same.

Today, people need the same basic's they always needed which is food, water and shelter, but let the economist tell it and the greed of wall street, they make us think we are a world in crisis, but we have the technology to do many things, previous generations could not do, but again, the greed training that people have woven into educations and the status games, has made a world that is controlled by the greed of dollars, at the expense of people lives and the future of 's humanity. people can't even make relationships today that last because we measure to much by material standards, and find no peace within self for the incessant commercial advertisement which tells us that we are not happy unless we buy the next new thing, and not only are families damaged, we even segregate our lives based on material things, which all means nothing but impressions we choose to believe. The more we want, the less we respect and appreciate, because our focus goes to trying to get more, when we have failed to make the best use of what we have. We take care of nothing, so they sell us disposable things.
Now globally what we get is a mass of waste we are unwise to recycle, and bury it in the ground, thus contaminating the very same world we must live upon.

Just recently the show of garbage, showed not just the mess in the US, but outside the polished areas of China, they have a terrible garbage problem they have no means to address nor correct, the problem of waste is over-taking us, and we remain unaware, because we are taught that the only way to make the world work is to build more and buy more.

the greed of mankind is designed around waste. Go to a Casino, and watch the food they waste daily, go to a all you can eat cafeteria and look at the waste, look around your house at the packaging and pay attention to how much waste accumulates daily. Our brains are consumed with 'acquisition", because the system is designed around buying and buying.

During the crisis of 2008, the people who did not suffer as much were the farmers who sold their products as street vendors because people bought only what they would eat, and they were not wasting, the farmer was busy, and the people who bought their goods were nourished.
Unfortunately, we will never go backwards, and the system of factory based life is here to stay... which means our brains will continue to be bombarded with commercial advertisement and we will continue to be surrounded by toxicity, we will continue to ingest chemical composition that may or may not be good for us, and we will continue to measure our lives by the material matter..

Maybe the tribes who still live in the jungles, in association with nature, may be the sectors of society that survive with humane consciousness long after the commercialized system of cities have perished. they may use more of their brain power for sensory perception of how to live with nature, how to understand what elements in nature are natural cures for many things, and what elements of nature is nourishing for various nutrients that sustain life. What may look like hardships to us, may not be the same concept to them, because they understand how to function along with nature, rather than it, and disrespect it.

today, we have no idea how the impact of microwave transmission of all our digital equipment impacts us, it may not even be a matter that we are yet of concern to be aware of. but... as being with brains, it is certain the brain does have the ability to detect it and possibly to become affected by it, and we have no idea what that effect is.

The world, the universe and mankind continues to be an astounding blend of more than we are aware of, As we are yet to understand how the spirit of life makes us animated in the many ways it does.
