Farmers Market

I've been wanting some "home grown cucumbers and home grown tomato's" for a while now..
Yesterday, I went to the Farmers Market. It was very much a pleasing site.
to see people proud of the things they grew and making them available to others.

It was certainly a refreshing thing, to see people who still enjoy the labors of growing food items.

I bought the cucumbers and tomato's, I went home and made the cucumbers with vinegar, salt and pepper.. and it was " great" !!!!! the natural taste was so many level above the longer deep green ones they sell at the grocery store.
Even the tomato's, just a sprinkle of salt and this thing was bursting with the flavor I remember from the time as a , when we had a garden and grew our own.

I think next year I will grow my own, or maybe I will consider to put a green house in the back yard and make my own

What is really interesting is the limits of selectable items in the average grocery store. There are so many things which they do not carry, and much of what they do carry is picked far too early and does not allow the sun to bring it to that sweet point. Even the fruit in the grocery stores, instead of it being at a point of being ripe, it is at a point of decay stage that gives it the appearance of being ripe.

I often think, If I'm wealthy, I'd have my own farm to grow my own food, and could hire a crew to manage it to insure that everything is nurtured for natural growth and ripeness. To me that would be far more suitable than having a house with 10 bathrooms and such.

Maybe if time continues in the trend its going, the younger generation may push for a return to things that fit into a natural growth programs.
Because today, young people have too often been duped to go to school chasing degree's that now they say are not marketable, yet the are left with high debt.. Some trapped in urban squalor, with poor food choices and in some cases living conditions which become totally dependent on mass marketing establishments.

At some point and time, the Farmer Nature of Mankind will have no choice but to re-surface. In the events of natural calamities and urban unrest, the people who will fare the best are those who have chosen to remain in the rural lifestyle. Not only will they have skills that are useful they will have their own food supply which renders them not victims of dependency in the ways we've become as city dwellers.

It would be great if the South did not have 'snakes".. that is currently one things that I find as a deterrent to gardening. But, when I think back to times as a , we did not have much of an issue about snakes in the garden, and if they did, I never saw it. Because the elders kept the rows clean and separated and insured the weeds did not grow up around the vegetables.
For me, the best scenario to avoid snakes is to have a 'secured Green House".

What's more interesting as well is the various talents people display of their creative developments, people seem to use things in unique ways as well as some make a variety of prepared food things which too is not only interesting but made from many natural products without all this stuff which has word labels, that is hard to pronounce.

Last week, I stopped at one of the well known Taco places, when I returned to work, the thing was almost like 'slop" wrapped in a tortilla. I ended up throwing it in the trash. Now only were they ultra small it was a shame that it would be sold and called a burrito !!!..

We have a small eatery next door to our office, they sell burritos, the thing has 'REAL MEAT', you can distinguish the vegetables, it is made with care to provide a good product to the customer.

It is not mashed up with some sauce to mask the fact the meat did not have a taste and may well not even be meat.

Today, more and more people are looking for places which serve food that is as close to being ' good substance" than a lot of this 'meshed together slop with a list of additives that one can't pronounce and some of which one has never heard of.

When we look at poor heath, and consider the spread of 'fast food places" that sell this stuff which looks nothing like the advertised picture. then it is easy to see why "obesity is wide spread and poor health is on an increase".

One thing I did find interesting in the few Asian locations I visited, they do not condone importing things with preservatives, and then when I look at the people, the things they eat does not seem to mess up their digestive system and the food processes through their bodies far better than much of the western styled common eateries serve up here.

I have found some soul food location, still serve basic foods that does not need a lot of preservatives, but I also know now, many of them unfortunately use canned foods, which is a big change from how they use to make use of naturally grown foods that was slow cooked with great care.

I guess in some regions which have the 'groceries" from local growers may eventually fare well, but in some of these localities, the cost is higher, but it is worth it, not to be buying chemical processed and chemically inflated food items.

In concerns about food items, in some ways 'big business" the bean counters they hire, have become nothing more than sellers of insufficient nutritional items, they pawn off as being something that its not.

Even today, one has to be careful about something as simple as 'fish", some places sell fish meat by one name, when they know it is not what they advertise. Some of this stuff is farmed raised by mass purveyors and we have no idea what they feed them, nor how much over stocking the ponds are, nor do we know the massive waste content these fish are subjected to live in.

As a Global society of human beings, we have allowed the lust of wealth seeking bring us to do anything for money and market and sell anything with a mass of media based advertisement which in principle we know is 'bullsh*t" and still we allow ourselves to be manipulated into full acceptance of this. maybe one of the worst things that could happen to society is 'mass media developed advertisements'.. Nothing lives up to the hype, and people are far too often made to believe these staged imagery and scenarios that are meticulously crafted for the psychological disillusioning impact, all in the name of "making a sale".

Unfortunately, our options are becoming less and less for 'real substance" the larger these corporations become and the more they buy out and over take the natural food growers and run them out of business and in some cases encroach upon then and take their land. The even sadder part is the large corporations lobby and pay off the politicians to create standards which almost makes it illegal for home growers to sell anything. Unless they do so at the limited number of "Farmers Markets". Sadly, the Farmers Markets are now seen only as a small novelty event... to insure it does not compete with corporate entities.

We have the powers to change this concept... but we've become such a materialistic society so groomed by commercial advertisement, until we have become passive in our lives and submissive to corporate process.
Then comes the pill companies and the 10 million diet programs and exercise equipment sales... until we choose to accept the substandard foods and then spend a fortune on pills and diet programs to try and purge this stuff from our systems.

I support a re-emergence of "Farmers Markets" and I also support banning any big corporate business entities from participation.

    Quoting wforf:
I do agree "the younger generation may push for a return to things that fit into a natural growth programs", but may wait for couple generations to wake up and they will need to make extra effort for it. I hope human beings are not digging graves for self. Feel sorry that I have this thought.
at some point the new generation is going to take the same technology and turn it upside down to use it to promote natural growth especially of things in the food system.

the trend for the late stage baby boomers and their immediate offspring's have truly messed things up. The baby boomers got caught trying to live that glamor of the media's 1960 illusions, and sadly along came their kids trying to live that 1970's opulence and run away gluttony.

It will take the next generation to come and see the late 1930's and 1940's where people were focused on natural products in the things they made.

The kids of the 60's rebelled against big business but as they grew older " which is today' Baby Boomers, they taught their kids to re-create the same big business madness via the University sit at a desk pursuit and rob the system, of which the Baby Boomers claimed claimed to detest during their late teens and early 20's, by the time they reached their 40's they became the same mad men they once detested, and they along with their kids became the generation of the greatest looters this nation has seen since the late 1920's
. Today it is the people in their 30's ,40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's who have truly made a mess of the economy, the environment and much else. It is now the people in their 20's are coming along and they don't know what to do, but sadly they are being influenced by the likes of Lady Gaga, anything goes, flash in the media music and the hoard of media entertainers who are on a fast burn out phase and no concept of a moral foundation, nor the dignity to build anything except self gloating opulent homes.

Now some of the people in their 50's and 60's are now looking back trying to grab on to the values they once ran away from when they themselves saw the wealth madness train in their midst, but the sad part is their immediate offspring's are the heads of industry who have no moral basis and they seek only wealth by any means. Those wealthy sectors whom are in their 70's and 80's of industry have become the same power seekers they were based on their idealism of the 1950's big business aims.

It's going to take a lot to turn this run away train around.

Go look at places like segments of Africa and the likes of some parts of Asian and Haiti and Latin America, all of such places which were looted or excluded by every means until the devastation is horrendous.

It may even take the generation who are not pre teens to come to a new realization.. because sadly many in the 20's now are basically lost, because jobs are unavailable, and for some the basics of systems to learn core values is in chaos.

Even the American madness of movies and games now produce nothing but 'death and destruction' imagery... It will take a lot to wipe this mentality away.
