Bad ingredients in Fast Food and Other Food Products - and Your Health.

You may do your own research on various fast food establishments and their products, as well as other consumer food products. It may be wise to do so for the benefit of your own health and life.

Article:
McDonald's Has To Get Rid Of 10 Million Pounds Of Mighty Wings

McDonald's has 10 million pounds of Mighty Wings it needs to sell soon.

The wings, which represent 20% of the chicken wings produced for a promotion, are in frozen storage, writes Julie Jargon at The Wall Street Journal.

McDonald's was "unable to sell enough," according to Jargon.

Earlier this year, CEO Don Thompson said that the chicken wings aren't the smash success it had hoped for.

While Mighty Wings apparently met internal targets, the item "was not strong enough to offset" weak sales trends, Thompson said on a conference call.

Here are some of the reasons they flopped.

Price: In McDonald's terms, Mighty Wings are a premium product. The wings come in packs of three for $3.69, five for $5.59, and 10 for $9.69. Thompson said the prices, which are similar to Buffalo Wild Wings, were “not the most competitive.”
Spice: Thompson said the wings were too spicy for many customers' tastes.
Appearance: The Mighty Wings looked too much like "McNuggets with bones," writes Susan Berfield at Bloomberg Businessweek.
Economy: Many McDonald's customers are still struggling financially—and are more likely to spend their hard-earned money on a tried-and-true favorite.

The fast food giant is currently implementing a plan to get rid of the wings.

MY COMMENT:
I sure won't be a recipient of any of these ...
This is what happens when The executives come on with trying to turn business into 'sell everything" type of enterprise.

Maybe they should focus on making a good burger with real ingredients,

Executive blunders continue to bring companies down lower and lower. but maybe on day Investors will select a board that is not filled with 'clone minded "yes men"...and hire a real board, and insure that the CEO is NOT the Chairman of the Board.

Some business are very smart, they know what their core products are and they focus on insuring the quality remains the best.

OTHER THINGS ABOUT FAST FOODS:

Did you know eating fast food just twice a week can make you gain 10 pounds and double your risk for insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes, obesity, and a host of other health issues?

In-Out Burgers, they are not trying to sell everything, they simply will make and see good burgers, fresh fries and drinks.

More and more people are finding out, its easier to buy the standard product that does not change in quality. The Fish sandwich, but the problem with the fish sandwich, is the high price tag it carries.

I'm doing my best to avoid as much fast food as reasonable.

Generally when I buy this stuff, I generally ask myself why? after I've bought it.

Here is a sample list of the Original Chicken Sandwich at one fast food place

EXCERPTS FROM VARIOUS WEB RESEARCH ARTICLES ON INGREDIENTS IN FAST FOODS

Other problems with Fast Foods

Having perused their menus and nutritional information for their meals, it’s incredible what synthetic chemicals they add to salads, chicken meals, burgers, and even to their drinks. Did you know that many of their foods and drinks contain tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), a chemical preservative that is so deadly that just five grams is fatal? One gram of TBHQ can cause nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, delirium, a sense of suffocation, and collapse.

______________________________

foods still contain trans-fats, in addition to a whole host of synthetic chemicals to produce a taste which they deliberately engineer to be addictive, so you spend more money with them according to investigations by Eric Schlosser in his book Fast Food Nation.

______________________________

Here is just one example of what XXXXXXXX put in their foods. The unhealthful ingredients in XXXXXXX’ Chicken nuggets (straight from the McDonalds’ web site) include:

sodium phosphates;
bleached wheat flour (nutrients removed);
food starch-modified (likely genetically-modified);
dextrose (sugar);
partially hydrogenated soybean oil and cottonseed oil with mono-and diglycerides, (trans fats);
Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil) (trans fats);
TBHQ, tertiary butylhydroquinone, a petroleium dervived product;
Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent (a form of silicone used in cosmetics, and Silly Putty).

Only 50 percent of a McNugget is actually chicken. The other half includes corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents, and completely synthetic ingredients.” If that’s not bad enough, a recent Annals of Diagnostic Pathology study revealed that number may be as little as 2% — as in only 2% of your meat is actually meat. (The average was 12% meat.)

The fact that Burger King products contain horsemeat and the company denied the link to consumers before being forced to admit it due to DNA evidence reveals a few different things. First of all, it sheds even more light on how fast food eaters truly have no idea what they’re eating — a revelation that will be further revealed by exposing the known chemicals in these products. Secondly, it shows that Burger King either:

Possibility A: Genuinely does not care about consumers and has denied the existence of horsemeat in their products as to not incite profit loss and media turmoil.

Possibility B: Burger King genuinely has no idea what its own products contain. Whether it be horsemeat or other ingredients, they are honestly clueless.

1. Electronic Cigarette Filler, Synthetic Laxative

You may have fond memories of enjoying a Wendy’s Frosty, but the lengthy and gut-wrenching list of chemicals that create what is labeled as a ‘milkshake’ contain more than one bad surprise. Wendy’s Frosty contains the typical ensemble of fast food components such as traditionally-GMO corn syrup, artificial flavorings, and a list of thickening agents. Of the 14 ingredients it takes to create the fast food top seller, one chemical stands out. Contained in the Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty, a laxative chemical and electronic cigarette filler known as propylene glycol is among the 25 new ingredients that make up this special Frosty.

Peer-reviewed research available on PubMed reveals that propylene glycol has been associated with neurotoxic effects in and a reduction in the permeability of the blood brain barrier. Propylene glycol is also used ”as the killing and preserving agent in pitfall traps, usually used to capture ground beetles.” It just so happens to even be illegal in cat food.

Wendy’s Toffee Twisted Frosty also contains mercury-filled high-fructose corn syrup.

2. Flour-Bleaching Agent Used in Yoga Mats, Foamed Plastics

If you were to use this yoga mat ingredient to produce food in another nation like Singapore, you would face fines up to $450,000 and 15 years in prison. In the United States, you can charge money and market the creation as the McRib. And that’s exactly what McDonald’s did. The McDonald’s McRib not only contains GMOs, deadly chemicals, and harmful fillers, but an ingredient known as azodicarbonamide. Banned in Australia, Europe, and Singapore, azodicarbonamide is used in the creation of foamed plastics like yoga mats.

The troubling chemical is one of the 70 ingredients that compromise the ‘pork’ in the McRib sandwich.

3. Silicone Breast Implant Filler

It really seems like McDonald’s is attempting to utilize a long list of banned ingredients in order to create its world famous fast food cancer bombs. McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets have a reputation as one of the worst food items on the planet for a reason. The so-called ‘meat’ of the nugget is actually made up of 7 different ingredients — not chicken. These include sodium phosphate, safflower oil, wheat starch, dextrose, and a particularly dangerous substance known as autolyzed yeast extract. While not the silicone breast implant chemical, but it is very similar in nature to MSG.

McDonald’s chicken McNuggets are full of surprises for sure, also containing dimethylpolysiloxane. This is the chemical that is used in silicone breast implants and silly putty, or at least will be for a short while longer. Dimethylpolysiloxane is actually being phased out as a breast plant filler due to safety concerns by the industry. It is still used by McDonald’s, however – at least in the US. McNuggets in Britain do not contain some of the dangerous chemicals that are so easily permitted in the US.

4. Chemical Salad

Is choosing the salad at a fast food establishment really the healthier choice? If you follow the marketing campaigns of these corporations, you may believe so. The sad truth, however, is that virtually every item sold in a fast food restaurant is tainted in some way with harsh chemicals and additives. Take McDonald’s ‘healthy’ salads, for example. Not only does the ‘cilantro lime glaze’ and the ‘orange glaze’ used on many of these salads contain propylene glycol (the chemical discussed in #1 as the laxative and electronic cigarette filler), but a medley of others on this list as well.

Two chemicals, however, stand out with the salad. Disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate both divulge the presence of MSG within the ‘healthy’ salad.

It may seem like old news to some, but the reality is that even ‘healthy’ fast food items are filled with toxic ingredients. Remember, it’s not about the food itself (salad, for example), but what it contains. Until we realize that lettuce may contain more than the eye can perceive, such as pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, preservatives, flavor enhancers, sweeteners, and more, it will be impossible to establish what ‘health’ really means.

You are exactly correct.. American people were far more healthy when there was not a fast food joint on ever other street corner. The people who lived in rural area did far better than city dwellers because this stuff was not readily available to rural communities.
Sadly now, in foreign countries, they are becoming saturated with these big name fast food places and they have almost become over-run with 7-11 and circle K. They don't sell anything much more than sugary drinks, chips, snack and beer and cigarettes.
I recently did a research on Prostrate Cancer and found that in many Asian locations that are not converted to western style foods and packaged foods, has a ultra low amount of this cancer, it is very high in industrialized nations, In Africa in the rural areas it is very low, but it is very high for black males over 50 in Industrialized Western nations,... It is higher among all men in western industrialized nation, than it is in Asian non industrialized nations. As well it is low among people of nations that eat more natural foods.

I visited the nutritionist, she showed me the amount of sugar in a bottle of soda, and the amount of sugar in a drink which claimed to be 100% natural grape juice, it has as much if not more sugar than the soda.
We talked about draining and washing canned vegetables, and choosing frozen over canned if possible.
personally don't trust very many of the meat products being sold. Live stock producers, question: where do they send the sick animals meat ????? In their facilities, because they throw nothing away... there are many non edible parts that are packaged and sent to secondary producers who grind and mix this stuff with other non edible parts of other animals and add in their various additives and market this stuff with a wide list of names.
Even Fishing, with the excessive over-fishing of the Oceans, along with the multitude of 'farm fish growing business', that feed fish everything from dog food to what ever they can get away with.

maybe some of the people who own all these 1000's of acres of land, will return to growing natural food, rather than just boasting about how much "non used land" they own.

Even here in the south, it is no longer common to see people have a vegetable garden, even people who have livestock, they may have up to 30-40-50 cows, but there is no a lot of independent people with massive heads of cattle, nor is there a lot of independent chicken farms... many of these things are now "industrialized'... ( we know that means chemical enhanced).

The even sadder part of eating is, we no longer eat because we are hungry, we eat for 'entertainment"... people go out to talk..."they eat', they go out after work, they eat, they plan to go to 'eat and call it a get together"... all the while they are getting fatter and fatter and over time some get sicker and sicker.

Who ever came up with the fad of "A date meaning going to dinner"? There was a time a woman many invite a man over for dinner, but that does not happen any more, because many women don't know how to cook, and the only person they will cook for is other women.

I doubt it will be easy to awaken people to the toxicity of mass marketed foods. Advertising will plaster any-kind of fancy picture and catchy name on products and set it up on the shelf as a lure.

It's amazing how much toxic things people will market and sell just for the sake of getting money.
Now they have energy drinks by 1000's of different names, they sell 100's of million of cans and bottles of this stuff daily.

One article I read spoke about the 'High Cholesterol" in the very thin Asian woman, because of the diet they have , which generally does not take it strong effect until they get older. Some Asian foods use a lot of various Oils and sugars to cook with, and as many get older, they get a less than soft nature of completion, as it is reasonable, when on considers that over time that high oil intake has to have an effect of some sort.
Some areas have very high concentration of street vendors, who sell a wide variety of fried type food stuff.

I don't know what the answer is, but I do know that we have to be of more concern about what we eat, and not turn eating into a recreational hobby.

I personally find that very challenging to understand that someone would spend a days wage on this stuff. actually here, the average meal deal will cost about the same as Minimum Wage for 1 hr.

I would like to open a food place, that sells 'SOUPS'... Quality Ingredient is the first concern, the second concern is to sell a product that anyone can afford a reasonable size meal at any time during the business hours of operation.

Maybe I can be able to give away free meals to certainly age groups at certain times by coordinating to provide a large pot to "Non Profit Food Programs that do public feeding".

A McDonalds website providing resources to its employees advises against eating hamburgers, fries and sodas. CNBC first noticed the latest in a series of strange pieces of advice provided by the fast food company to its employees. "While convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle," McDonalds says of its primary product, "fast foods are typically high in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt and may put people at risk for becoming overweight."

It goes on: "In general, people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease must be very careful about choosing fast food because of its high fat, salt, and sugar levels.

    Quoting beautifulkayra:
    Thank you for sharing this article, Beyond.
    Very good reminder.
    Totally agree with you,..we have to be of more concern about what we eat, and not turn eating into a recreational hobby.

    I do my best to stay away from having fast food.
    Prefer to have steam or boil foods instead of fried ones.
    Drink water and tea, instead of the vitamins or other new drinks.
    Some friends often teased me for being so picky.

    About last week one of friend wanted to celebrate her birthday. When we were discussing about where to eat, I shared them It wouldn't matter for me where to eat. Even it is at one of the most expensive buffet rest, and for free. I would not eat everything there.

    It was then decided we ate at one of the nice restaurant here which almost have everything. What i ate? fresh salmon, oyster, dimsum and some veggies. Had some ice cream too
    There were about 10 of us, and everyone enjoyed the foods there very much.

    I eat what I need to eat.
    Because my body needs the foods.
    Although I also know some people who are quite picky on their foods, still got many kinds of disease anyway.
Although I also know some people who are quite picky on their foods, still got many kinds of disease anyway.

this is very true.... I eat fairly well, and recently had to go to the hospital for something I would not have thought would have developed. But, at this point, I have to deal with the reality of it. For me, its life changing in some ways, but I'm alive.
maybe later I'll write a blog about it. but not right now, I'm still gathering information.

I can certainly say, for anyone, don't rule out the potential of anything happening, because we never know and some of it we may have absolutely little to no control over some things happening.
