anyone can have their choice of advocacy for Putin... He is in power because his plan promised the already wealthy more wealth, and provided for those who gained wealth through the crimes of their past, to keep their wealth. No longer are the wealthy so eager to support someone, who's promise has gone sour and just as you stated. "Russia's oil wealth funds lost nearly one hundred billion U.S. dollars" These same wealthy people, will themselves have him taken down, if they continue to loose money at the rate they are loosing it. The voice of the mass people is far less important, than the voice of the power elite. The same as it is in many countries. but Russia is Russia, they won't publicize their intenet to dismiss or bring the demise of Putin, when they take the chance of mind to do it, they will do it. Those who profited from the Olympic construction, have put those dollars away, and if there is not another dollar making venture to benefit them. They will have no loyalty for the past money made on the construction work they profited from with Sochi. People with big money has an "allegiance to money", not individuals, they will flip and switch based on who can help them make it, and they will turn on that same person if that person is the cause of them loosing it. Putin is well aware of that fact, because that's how he operates. He has promised them something to be gained by invasion and take over; but those things have not produced fruit, and may not produce fruit but instead increase the hardships of the wealthy, in loosing more money. It does not make him great to be a bully and brutal aggressor. That is fantasy for those who favor 'bully based arrogance", and mistake it for progressive leadership. True leaders pursue peace building coalitions, and coalition that stand against human abuse, and stand against bully and terrorist acts. Putin aligns himself with China, because China pushes hard because it is not only despaired to need additional resources, it is also despaired to try and find means to sustain 7-8% growth, at any expense. but the cost is 'in the manner they alienate the rest of the world, and over time, the world community will stand against both. China is slowly burning many bridges, with is flooding of other markets and attacking markets in other lands. It is engaged in high level hacking and spying to steal intellectual property and nations various secrets. None of such things will serve China nor Russia well in the long term. It's like putting wealth in the hands of Teenagers and very young adults, they will become arrogant, aggressively intrusive, and boastful and think themselves invincible. This is the principle of Power Corrupts, and money become the roots of many evils. The Global Humanitarian concerns are missing in both Russia and China. Even the British Empire when it was vast, did not forget to hold some semblance of Global Humanitarianism; even when it engaged in brutal methods in other areas, it set up to have policy within its structure of humanitarian aspirations. Over time, it relinquished various sovereignty in various lands, and crafted instead trade agreements and autonomy to some that it previously had dominated. Russia and China does not have that character. Even today, in Hong Kong, there is unrest, because China can't keeps its mainland hands out of Hong Kong political process, yet it expect to continue to benefit from the capitalism of Hong Kong. This is a rift that won't go away anytime soon. In the long term, Mainland China may find its damage too great to repair. The more wealth China claims, the more aggressive it becomes in the region, contesting and challenging claims that have been dormant for decades and beyond. It stands against the UN and its aims on too many issues, and it challenges the same nations it relies upon for exportation benefits and gains. could you imagine Zuckerberg's Facebook trying to fight Apple, Windows, and Google.. they would have buried him and facebook. he was smart enough to know that the only way to win and retain the stature to be among them, was to work with them. Not against them. what would become of China if it suffered a 3-5 drop of 3-4% loss of growth figures. Inflation would grip the nation, the wealthy will loose 100's upon 100's of billions, and the Maintenance cost to upkeep its infrastructure will tax its resources and deplete its reserves to a level unfathomable by the current day Chinese mindset. Go back and look at the history of Spain, Look at the history of Argentina and look at the fall of Rome, the Fall of Greece and many other powers that have lost what they thought they had. Only 30 yrs ago, the Japanese thought it was the king of the world, in exports and other things, Today, only the quality level high tech and the automotive is a consistent performing aspect of Japans Industrial sectors. Yet, resources dependence is extremely high, so it had to tone down it's rhetoric. with many nations and back off its aggression in manner with many nations. it is a wrongful thing to underestimate the European and British, the Nordic Regional Group and the American West.
