I don't understand why people here continue to blame the scamming on "Nigerians". I've identified and reported dozens of scammers who were deleted by AFF. None of them ever told me they were from Nigeria nor have they ever done anything to suggest they were anything other than garden variety con artists which thrive in every country. I have friends here in China who have been recruited to do the scamming as employees of various companies. At the time they were contacted they were provided with the pictures and dialog samples they would be required to use in the execution of their job.

Well, as a minority living here in China, I have a little experience with bigotry and racism (Saw MUCH too much of it in the U.S. as well!) . It is wrong to blame everything on one small group of bad people. I really don't like religion but I also do not blame all Muslims or Christians for terrorism either. (https://qz.com/1435885/data-shows-more-us-terror-attacks-by-right-wing-and-religious-extremists/) It serves no good purpose to assume a scammer is Nigerian. It is wrong and you should know better. The word "scammer" is sufficient. Please have a little respect for the millions of Nigerians who aren't con artists.

None of the scams have been perpetrated by ethnic groups. They have been the actions of con artists of which no ethnicity or people of any given country hold any monopoly.

Fine. Sorry, I did not say you are racist. I said I have some LIMITED experience with bigotry and racism. I was appealing to the fact that you, as a Black man have more than likely far more experience of it than I. But my own experiences have been terrible at times and they have taught me to be even more sensitive to the subject than previously. I was trying to appeal to the fact that I am sure your experiences have been far worse than mine and that because of this I am truly amazed that you weren't more careful to make sure no part of it leaked into your own words and actions. Generalizing a problem based upon ethnicity is the issue I find offensive. Even if you know for certain that a specific scammer is Nigerian, it still serves no purpose to point that out anymore than it is necessary to state the color of skin a person has when they perform any action that isn't socially accepted--like jaywalking, littering, double parking.

I've read many of your blogs over the past 10+ years here. I know you're a good person and mean well. I am just saying the use of "Nigerians" when talking or warning about scammers is not something any of us should be doing. Even if it were true that all or most Nigerians participate in scams like this, does it help future targets to say so? Do they sign all of their messages to us with, "Nigerian" just so we can know ahead of time? Of course not. When someone tries to scam you, until you figure out it is a scam there will be no clue whether it is a man or woman or what color there skin is. Yes, we can often see clues in the grammar and vocabulary that help us know if the person writing us is from where they say they are. But I doubt any of us here at Chinese FriendFinder are linguistically expert enough to know with certainty, specifically which is their country of origin.

A scammer is a scammer is a scammer. Unless we have access to a persons exact location at the very first point of contact, it serves no purpose to try and guess where they are really from and even less to make an assumption and to announce it to everyone else. You discovered a new scam? Great! Share the details so we can all be more careful. Just don't report 'facts' not in evidence and everything will be good with us. Peace.
