"Every human being has wishes and ambitions they seek to fulfill,
and whether these concern wealth, beauty, knowledge, power or
glory, etc., they expend their physical and psychic energy, time
and health in doing so. But once they have achieved their goal,
what happens? After a moment of satisfaction, they begin to lose
all interest in what they have acquired. Yes, this often happens:
what you succeed in acquiring no longer has the same aura
surrounding it as when you only wanted it, so then
dissatisfaction and emptiness set in.
The only way of avoiding this feeling of emptiness after we have
achieved what we wanted is to go looking for some distant object
that is so far away we will never attain it. This distant,
inaccessible goal that surpasses everything and contains
everything we can also call God. By walking the path that we must
walk if we are to come closer to him, we will find love, wisdom,
beauty, strength and riches without ever again exhausting
ourselves by searching in vain."
