Ha ha, you are not the only one who gets these. Key words like "darling", "honey", "dear", in a first email from someone who doesn't know you at all are annoying. Oh, well, delete and move on.

In regards to using terms such as "dear", I guess it depends on how it is used. If a letters starts out as Dear Bob, this is polite. If the content of a letter, especially one from someone I have never talked to starts off being too familiar or intimate, not a good sign. In response to pashunate calling a lady dear, hun, pretty lady, all good of course, but not something used where I was from.
