Woaini's list of percentages shows that marriage in western developed countries has at least a 50/50 chance of working or not working. I tried to find out China's divorce rate. In the current news, from a number of sites, they are all quoting either a rise of 3.9% or a total rate of 3.9%. The rate has been rising steadily since 2003. One difficulty is the huge diversity of income and modernization throughout China. Whatsonweibo.com reports that the divorce rate in Beijing is 40%. But in rural areas divorce is still low due to cultural, and probably economic, reasons.
All of the articles state that the current rise in the rate of divorce in China is linked to social media. True or not, it is sort of ironic that improved ways to communicate would lead to a higher rate of separation.

Looking at beautifulkayra's list, I would reorder it to be: Communication, honesty, trust, love, faithfulness. Communication, if honest, leads to trust, and if two people are emotionally looking for it, may lead to falling in love. This is sort of a progression rather than just desired qualities. However, even the nicest person will assert their faithfulness is good forever, but over time this can change. About 50% of the time in most modern societies.

What to do? Should the third date include a battery of psychological profiling tests? Or the astrology approach, I'm a tiger, your a monkey, we will never be happy. Somewhere there is a happy medium.
