The executives mingled over tea and sugar cookies, and the chatter was upbeat. Their industry, they said at a conference in the Indian capital, saves lives and brings roofs, walls and pipes to some of the world's poorest people.

Their product? Asbestos. Outlawed in much of the developed world, it is still going strong in the developing one. In India alone, the world's biggest asbestos importer, it's a $2 billion industry providing 300,000 jobs.

The International Labor Organization, World Health Organization, medical researchers and more than 50 countries say the mineral should be banned; asbestos fibers lodge in the lungs and cause disease. The ILO estimates 100,000 people die from workplace exposure every year.

But the industry executives at the asbestos conference, held in a luxury New Delhi hotel, said the risks are overblown.

Instead, they described their business as a form of social welfare for hundreds of thousands of impoverished Indians still living in flimsy, mud-and-thatch huts.

"We're here not only to run our businesses, but to also serve the nation," said Abhaya Shankar, a director of India's Asbestos Cement Products Manufacturers Association.

Yet there are some poor Indians trying to keep asbestos out of their communities.

Dozens of countries including Japan, Argentina and all European Union nations have banned it entirely. Others like the U.S. have severely curtailed its use.

More than 150 economic fugitives, many of whom are corrupt officials or suspected of graft in China, are at large in the United States, Chinese state media said on Monday, citing a senior official from the public security ministry.

The United States "has become the top destination for Chinese fugitives fleeing the law," the China Daily newspaper said, citing Liao Jinrong, director general of the ministry's International Cooperation Bureau.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has made fighting pervasive graft a central theme and has warned, like others before him, that corruption threatens the Communist Party's survival.

Beijing has long grappled with the issue of so-called "naked officials" - government workers whose husbands, wives or are all overseas - who use foreign family connections to illegally shift assets out of China or to avoid investigation. Some estimates put the number of Chinese officials and family members moving assets offshore at more than 1 million in the past five years.

But bringing these fugitives back to China isn't easy. There is no extradition treaty between China and the United States, and foreign governments have expressed reluctance to hand over Chinese suspects as they could face the death penalty in China.

Last month, China launched what it called a "fox hunt" for corrupt officials, saying it will track down fugitives around the world and punish them.

"This is a new message that the current administration is sending to the public," said Zhu Jiangnan, an assistant politics professor at the University of Hong Kong, who specializes in corruption in China. "In past years, the government didn't say very explicitly they will get corrupt officials back to China."

A case highlighting the problems of extradition is Lai Changxing, once China's most-wanted fugitive, who fled to Canada with his family in 1999 and claimed refugee status saying allegations that he ran a multibillion-dollar smuggling operation in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen were politically motivated. His case triggered tensions between Beijing and Ottawa. Canada eventually deported Lai in 2011, and he was jailed for life the following year.

Globally, 320 suspects in corruption cases were "seized and brought back to China" in the first half of this year, state news agency Xinhua said in July.

In March, China's top prosecutor, Cao Jianming, said more than 10 billion yuan ($1.65 billion) in "dirty money" and property was recovered and 762 corruption suspects were captured at home or abroad last year.

Since the mid-1990s, an estimated 16,000-18,000 party officials, businessmen and other individuals have "disappeared" from China, according to a People's Bank of China report prepared in 2008 - taking with them an estimated 800 billion yuan.

China's mountainous tower of trash

China's economic growth in the last thirty years has been stunning, averaging just under 10 percent per year in the last 30 years, roughly three times the global average. But all of that economic growth has created some mountainous environmental and health-related challenges, too. Literally mountainous — like this huge nine-story tall pile of trash that has built up at the crossroad of Huanghe avenue and Zhufeng street of Shijiazhuang, in central China's Hebei province:

The "Pretty to Look At Factor" in Society

One blog had a quoted text which said:

‘Pretty girls don’t need a lot of education to marry into a rich and powerful family, but girls with an average or ugly appearance will find it difficult,' wrote China's Xinhua News Agency three years ago.

This is not something Unique to China, its global. all over the world this is a reality.

(some women rely on it, and some don't)

We see it on the Media, and it is certain that everyone who studies Journalism are not "media standard imagery".... but the media use these Pretty to Look at Faces and bodies, as a hook and catch to attract viewers and they will pay them well based on their looks.

We see in a variety of fields, in various countries, that some Pretty to Look at is often afforded opportunity and advancements, even without any qualification or experience of any sort for the particular fields.

We see it in the Courts, with some cases that may have turned out different if the girls were not slim, pretty to look at, and with some "media standard image associated with sensual".. Casey Anthony, Amanda Knox, and Jody Aris...

There are countless "pretty to look at" girls with no financial resources who are sought after by wealthy men, as well as there are many girls who are pretty to look at that seek out only wealthy men.

It's not a phenomenon that is only in Asian Nations. It is every place, small towns, big cities, back in the country woods areas and were ever there is community.

Some of the women know their looks is a commodity from early ages, some play it for what they can get, and some push it to the limits. It's probably been that way since the beginning of human beings.

I'd think even if Aliens came from another Planet, depending on what they consider Pretty, they'd do the same thing.

Not all Pretty to Look at women rely solely on their looks, there are many who develop skills and expertise in a variety of fields, they just happen to be pretty to look at, but its not something they expect to carve out a pathway for what they want. As I've seen some Pretty to Look at women, who are very hard working individuals, as well as some who are very talented in the skills of craft or profession. There are some Pretty to Look at women, who do all they can, to play it down as much as they can, because they want to make it by other means, rather than to be given concessions based on how she looks or what her body shape is.

It seems the many men are looking for some of the things they valued about a mate over decades and centuries. But, it is not so simple to find woman today who have dedication and stability and the will or want to bring contributions to relationship, too many are seeking compensation for even being present, as the dominant thing on their mind or in their heart.

It's very sad - in this day an age what has become of life and the concept of relationships.

They seem to look for convenience, monetary access, material shopping and following fads and chasing what merchandisers dictate them to pursue. media telling them their looks should get this or that, the media painting images telling them to barter sex for this or that.
It's turned into a craziness that is astounding.

They don't seem to have that interest to invest in relationships, it appears it far more selfish concern than ever in the history of human beings. Selfishness and bartering has dominated the spectrum,

Vanity has moved forth in society to a point of absurdity.

Implanted breast, when there is no cancer causing normal breast removal to require such implants, injected lips, injected butts and hair extensions, weaved in hair, over priced clothing just for the label, and purses and shoes are changed and pursed like its a desperation pursuit at great expense for the sake of a logo. They seek to be entertained, over engaging in interactive communication, as well as seeking to having favor granted for simple association and cannot deal with anything that does not focus itself upon flattering her or men offering himself up to be a servant puppet.
"what is the world is wrong to have degenerated to this low level"??

IF men look around, many of the older stable minded women, have found a style which is balanced, it is not excessive in any area, it is not wasteful expensive, it does not need a name brand label on it, they don't try to change their character with every costume change, they don't need to be entertained on an incessant basis, nor do they expect someone to spend money on them at every turn, and they don't expect someone to feel obligated to give them a weekly allowance as if he owes her some expense paying for being there.
These women are far more rare in life and as time moves forth they become even more rare. Many older women if they have gained any monetary holding, have no interest in a mate, because that might mean sharing. Something in which the current state of situations with many has degraded to a point to have no interest in such.

Many of the "seductress types", which come in many varieties. generally they will not be with interest to invest in a relationship with any thought of a long term building of a relationship, nor should one develop any assumption that she is going to stay focused in the relationship. The ego of always wanting more and being satisfied with nothing, is the dominant theme of the times.

We see what the media promotes, its currently about "exhibitionist" styling, which also comes in many varieties from over near nudity to, high focus on drawing out lusting interest via tease focused exhibitions. . Sex is used as a lure, but it rarely has any true appreciations within its manner of usage, for it is used to seek an angle for manipulation to extract some gains of material, money or favor,

Many men see it, that's why so many, as so in this site, do not push very hard to try and make too much of situations. Over and over by many different phrases, the men are stating their reluctance, and they voice their displeasure as the options which they have to choose among, Many have learned by being burned, to not put money on the table and not to allow his money to become the target aim of the many types of thieves which has come to exist within the arena, pretending to want a relationship, when the aims of so many is truly about seeking convenience, material things and money.

If there was general honest and sincerity as what once was a part of relationship aims... there would be more matches and more relationship built considering the communication tools available.

When men can no longer trust women, the world become very different and it becomes very much cut-throat and the air of pursuits of monetary desperation takes over where love once existed.

Odd things.........

Even the young men today, are far less trusting of the young women, and it is truly sad when the young come so quick to the point of distrust of woman.

We watch the media, the women bounce from one to the next, like they are themselves, 'toys', seeking a playmate for the week. Entertainers promoting as close to nudity as possible as their claim to fame, until we now have shows like the Kardasian's, built solely on "selling allure", selling excess and chasing the lusting of gluttony.
the next brand of shows is the "Wives of ______".. bickering and whining while wasting money, doing nothing but scheming, shopping, talking and expecting their looks and the pretense of imagery to delude someone to think they are about something, when vanity is the tonality.
As with some shows, we see them being arrested for some type of graft or deception, trying to hold on to the delusions they chase.

Odd things......

It may be two generations (or more) before people come back around to figuring out what in life is most precious to value.

The weather has been odd the past few days, it dropped into the 70's with rain and very cloudy... I guess next week, we'' go back into the blistering heat days.

I'm sure people, the grass and trees and many animals also needed this reprieve.
