I usually talk to my brother every week or so. He travels in business and makes it to Florida to visit a few times a year. I knew he was coming, but not exactly when. I did have a 4 day weekend planned and heard a car door in the driveway this morning.
He rented a Toyota Yaris for the weekend... small car. Actually it's just over 'can of tuna' size, but the weight, handling and power for a minicar wasn't bad for a $16,000 entry level vehicle.
I've seen a bunch of them on the highway, often used for delivery service or company cars with lots of advertising wraps. Great on gas but my fear would be how it stands up to side impact in an accident.
While we were eating lunch, my brother mentioned he wanted to go to the local college library. He's looking for an engineering book that's been out of print and figured it was at the library here as they have a good engineering department.
I prefer to do internet research... and found there are 20+ libraries in the United States that have the book in their collection. One source says it's been digitized, but unavailable as a downloadable PDF (or other book format) as the copyright to this work hasn't expired.
So... it's was a good day as my brother has a direction to go to and his next step is to see if the book is available for purchase or if he can get his local library get the book on loan from a library who actually has one.

I find it offensive to be greeted by this advertisement when I open my browser to Asia Friend Finder. Complaining did nothing as it hasn't gone away.

Trump signs historic summit agreement with Kim Jong-Un...

President Trump's meeting Tuesday in Singapore with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un was such a success that he's signed an executive order appointing Kim as United States Secretary of Defense, replacing current Secretary Jim Mattis.

Immediately after their meeting, Trump Tweeted "This rocket Man has it going on... and will do America great service with all his nuclear missile experience."

Kim's expected to pack a few bags from at his palace in North Korea and head to the US by the end of the week. He has asked Dennis Rodman to watch over things until he can find suitable arraignments for his temporary residence in the west wing a Mar-a-Lago.

We're told his new position includes membership to the country club. As part of this successful deal, He's also agreed to allow Trump to build 6 new hotels in North Korea along the eastern coast and 2 in the city of Pyongyang!

To 'summit' things up their meeting was a great success for Trump.

Old Documents...

My brother has been doing genealogy for as long as I can remember. He's got photos and copies of birth certificates probably 6 or 7 generations dating back to Italy. I called him this morning on the way back from helicopter flying and somehow the conversation went to finding our father's birth certificate. Although he's the keeper of records, I'm actually keeper of the documents and original photos.

I opened the 'vault' today, a fire resistant box I keep in the linen closet that had all the old documents. Unable to find what I was looking for, I was surprised to see the oldest document in my collection. It's the original Baptism certificate for my grandmother dated 1903 from the Chiesa dell' Immacolata Concezione (Church of the Immaculate Conception) New York City. The hand written document is in Italian with a seal from the State of New York.

My calculator says 115 years...

There are creases everywhere as it's been folded lots of different ways but the document has maintained it's clarity even as the paper has turned golden brown.

ORDER HERE...

I was running errands one weekend and decided to stop at McDonald's for lunch. As usual, I walked up to the counter under a sign that read: ORDER HERE.
Expecting to place an order, the young man pointed to a row of electronic kiosks with touch screens and told me I had to order there. I pointed to the sign over my head and said "No thanks, I'll order here." Yeah, he took my order and told me that ordering at the counter would soon go away. My response was "I guess I'll have to stop eating at McDonald's."

While waiting for my food I walked over to the kiosk to 'see the future' and realized the person/people responsible for programming the menu had no clue what they were doing. I say this because the screen is arranged in a portrait mode and from the card reader/keypad to the top of the screen was more than three feet.

I touched the screen to begin an order only to see really small pictures of what the menu items were, but there they were spaced with gaps spread out to fill the entire screen. That means a person in a wheelchair had no chance to reach the top of the menu. If you were a midget I suppose you could jump up to reach the selections in the upper portion of the screen. Maybe they should have a touch screen 'pointer' for anyone who is under four feet tall!

Let's make this clear... I'm capable of self service, but I'll resist change that makes me do something someone else should be doing.

Technology is a double-edged-sword where people are obsessed with the number of things they can do from their cellphone. Lazy comes in different disguises. So now, with the system implemented in McDonald's, via app you can order lunch, schedule a time to pic it up... and have them walk out to the parking lot to drop it into your waiting hands. Don't worry, they won't bill you until the food gets bagged and headed out to your car.

The more photos I see of you... the less attractive you become.

There's a mystique about a few nice photos on a woman's profile that disappears soon after she begins to upload new photos every week, especially when the new photos show a 'look at me' side of her personality.

I'm less impressed with backgrounds of where you've been as to who you are. Big meals at a fancy restaurant, the Eiffel Tower in the background... or possibly the Great Wall Of China and Forbidden City.

Looking for a mate on a dating site is a difficult process. I've seen some women here and other sites who have been online for more than 10 years.

Good luck to all, but remember most of the members here aren't Gold or Silver and I believe your profile should be short and sweet with the right 3 photos that would be enough to make a standard member to pay for premium membership for a month to be able to contact you.

private parts.

In a former life, I was coaxed by a girlfriend to try it.
Jokingly I said... "Does this make me a pornstar?"
In more ways than one, it felt creepy and I couldn't wait for the hair to grow back.

They're bringing up Hillary... again.

I often scan news stories about Trump and instead of reading the story, I scroll down to the comments. Today, there was one about Trump's health. We all know something wasn't right about his personal doctor's report and the story suggested there 'could be' something he's covering up.

So I click to read the (many) comments, including ones bringing Hillary Clinton into the comment. Naturally, someone has to remind people making Hillary comments that she isn't the president and any reference to her is pointless.

Senator John McCain, has been diagnosed with brain cancer is already making plans for a funeral ceremony and according to news reports... Trump is NOT invited.

Don't worry John, even if you did invite him, there's a 99% chance Trump will be at Mar-a-Lago playing golf.
