Rice Pudding...

I've been wanting to make rice pudding for a while now.

This is a takeoff on my previous blog about the Venezuelan Chicha, a drink made with cooked rice, milk and ice cubes.

We had terrible weather today and I decided to stay home and try a twist on an old recipe.
I took 2 cups of cooked rice, a glass of whole milk, 3 eggs, 2 spoons of condensed milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, a few sprinkles of cinnamon, 1 squirt of honey.
With the whole thing in a blender, I had to stop a few times to mix it with a spoon as it was very thick... I could have added more milk but wanted it to come out thick.

30 minutes in an oven at 325 and the top started to darken. I allowed it to cool and tried a few spoonfuls.

The results were: Success!!

Venezuelan Chicha...

I did a blog on another site about rice pudding. It's something my mother was good at making. The recipe involved rice, whole milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract and (if I remember correctly) an egg or two.
She would cook the rice first, then add it to a large 'oven safe' bowl and bake it until the top started to brown.

One of the comments to my blog was from an English speaking woman from Venezuela who linked a YouTube video of a cold recipe for rice pudding called Chicha.

In the recipe they took cooked rice, sugar, water, milk, condensed milk, cinnamon and ice cubes. Most of it was done in a blender and the ice cubes added after.

I cut lots of corners, leaving out the sugar and ice cubes. It was in the blender for a few rounds as I needed to add more milk so it would pour.

I was good... the flavor was different than the cooked version of rice pudding, but it was quick and easy!

Room temperature...

How do you calculate room temperature?
It depends on the room. South Florida had a cold front move through this weekend with freezing temperatures across the state. Currently, it is 39F outside and the temperature inside is 64, mostly due to the high winds blowing into the jalousie window in my front door.

My door faces the north and cold fronts normally come from the north. If you put your hand near the jalousie you can feel the wind passing through the glass slats.
I know, that is not very energy efficient in the summer especially when the cool air escapes from inside.

Coming up this Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 is the Chinese new year.

Depending on who you ask, it has different pronunciations and interpretations.

"Happy Chinese New Year" in Mandarin is: xin nian (new year) kuai le (happy)
Pronounced shin nee-an kwai le.
The Cantonese version is sun nin fai lok- pronounced san knee fy loc

Many people associate the Cantonese phrase Gong hei fat choy as happy new year, but it's actually a wish for prosperity to the person you say it to.
In Mandarin Chinese, it’s Gong xi fa cai (pronounced gong she fa tsai).

Either way, millions of Chinese will be up in the middle of the night cleaning house and preparing for a celebration and to some that lasts for a week!

There are Chinese zodiac signs and the Tiger is known as the king of all beasts in China and the zodiac sign for Tiger is a symbol of strength, exorcising evils, and braveness. Many Chinese will be wearing hats or shoes with a tiger image for good luc
2022 is a year of the Water Tiger. It starts from February 1st, 2022, and ends on January 21st, 2023. A Water Tiger year occurs every 60 years.

So kung, mung, sung, or however you say it... Happy Chinese New Year!
