"Instincts are formidable life forces. If we try to stifle them, either we don’t succeed and we exhaust ourselves in the struggle, or we do succeed, which is no better, since we dry up the springs of life within us. So, how should we control our instincts? By cherishing a high ideal, for it is the best transformer of energies. When we place a very high ideal in our heart and soul, our energies cannot avoid passing by way of it, and our ideal takes on the task of giving our energies another direction, of directing them higher.
You may be wondering what processes lead to this transformation. You do not need to know. When we eat, we do not need to know the detail about the changes that occur, first in our mouth and then in our stomach and intestines, but we sense that we have received forces. It is the same with the high ideal: if we support it with our best thoughts, feelings and wishes, it changes our instinctive impulses, and the energies produced by this change in turn support our psychological and spiritual life – and our physical life too, for nothing in us is separate."

And what could be more necessary and more invigorating than tearing ourselves away from the heavy atmosphere that surrounds us and soaring to realms where everything is harmonious, luminous and weightless"

"All day long, humans attend to their affairs; they seem to be
awake, but actually most are only sleeping. They go through life

Being awake means being aware of all the lives inhabiting space,

nature is alive and offers us all it possesses. Speak to them,

"Autumn is placed under the influence of Michael, the archangel of the Sun in the sephirah Tiphareth. Their good actions are in one pan, their bad ones in another, and he is waiting to see which ones will prevail. The scales are the instrument of judgment, and in a way autumn itself is the season of judgment: the ripe fruits are collected and sorted, and only the good ones are kept.
This work of separation and of sorting that takes place in nature is also mentioned by Hermes in the Emerald Tablet, when he says, ‘You will separate the subtle from the gross with great industry’, meaning ‘with great care’. To separate the subtle from the gross means to separate the spiritual from the material. Initiates participate with their spirit in the work of the whole of nature, and they know when the time has come to let what remains of the dark matter inside them die, in order to liberate true life. They are well, but everything makes them tired, and they do not realize that by constantly complaining they will one day end up completely exhausted. And yet, you can easily see that those who complain of being tired are rarely the ones who do the most work. They are undeniably tired; it is not an imaginary tiredness. No, it is quite real, except that it does not come from overwork but from the fact that they dwell on thoughts and feelings that wear them out. And this psychological tiredness is contagious: when you meet these people, after spending a few minutes with them you feel as if you have a load on your shoulders or as if you have no energy left.
One of the most effective methods for getting rid of psychological tiredness is good physical tiredness; this kind of tiredness brings rest and healing. Humans have unsuspected inner resources which they must learn to make the most of by exerting their will. So many are tired quite simply because they lead a sluggish life!"
